Here was our system:
We took an a&a blanket and pacifier every day to daycare. They keep 3 changes of clothes there for her. We supply diapers and wipes, and they let us know when her stash is low.
I used the medela bottles to pump into and for her to eat out of. I BF her right before I left for work. I pumped every time she would eat (every 2 hours). For me it was 9, 11, 1, 3. I had a cooler that came to work with me, and I sent a cooler with 4 bottles to daycare with her. (I bought an extra medela one and an extra ice pack). I froze what I pumped on Friday and rotated out my frozen stash on Mondays.

@pregnantbee: It depends on her. Most mornings she doesn't want to eat so we just let her sleep until we're about to leave.

I agree that it is nice to have extra bottles so you don't need to wash quite so many things.

I have been WOH and pumping since LO was 12 weeks (now 10 mos) and it is doable but takes a little getting used to. I found helpful to commit to a pumping window in my schedule and try to keep it around the same time everyday.

Each daycare is different regarding what to bring and how they handle the bottles so you'll want to double check with your provider. Good luck!

@BabyBoecksMom: Thanks. Do you also feed her before you go to work?

I wake up, eat, shower and pump while I do my hair and makeup. As soon as I get home, I soak her bottles. While those soak, I feed her, bathe her, nurse her to sleep and put her to bed. Then I clean the bottles and get everything ready for the next day so that I can just grab it and go.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. Any other things I should think about in terms of logistics?

We always pre-portioned the bottles and sent them to daycare. I think she was eating 3 or 4 3.5 oz bottles. Daycare asked that we bring in a bunch of diapers and wipes at the beginning of each month. On a daily basis, we bring a blanket, pacified and a change of clothes.

We have to send in pre-prepared bottles, so every night I wash her bottles, pour the milk I pumped into them, and then wash the pump bottles to use again the next day. I have the little black case that came with my pump to bring the milk I pumped home every day, and we send DD's bottles in a lunchbox. We also leave a frozen bag of milk at daycare that they can use in case of emergency.

You probably need to check with day care on what they provide... Our day care uses their own mealtime bibs but we bring the drool bibs. I pack a blanket for the crib that gets washed on the weekend but they provide linens. Also there are no outside toys allowed for us since it's Montessori style. I sent frozen bags and empty bottles for each feeding. I think they would accommodate you on however you want to send the milk. For transport we have a bottle bag with freezer pack insert. I recommend extra medela bottles since its hard to keep up with all the washing!

I always look the milk out of the Medela bottles and put them into the bottle DD would drink from. That way I didn't need to get too many more pump bottles. I always just put one pumping session into one bottle and it was enough to keep her full.

As far as supplies, any diaper cream you use, and maybe a sheet for the crib. Our daycare supplied bibs and burp clothes because it was too much hassle to keep them all straight with each baby.

Hi everyone. I'm about to return to work on Monday (sad and also excited), and my 3.5-mo-old LO will be going to daycare 2 min. from our house. I work 10 min. from our house, so I don't have a serious commute. As you can imagine, I'm a bit nervous for this new chapter and want to be prepared. My question(s) for you:

1) I'm planning to pump at work and bring milk to daycare. Logistically, what do you do about bottles? I have the Medela Pump In Style and normally pump into the 4-oz bottles that came with it. My husband has been giving an occasional breast milk Avent brand bottle to supplement a feeding. Do daycares prefer that I divide milk into the bottles that LO will drink from? Or can I just give them the Medela storage bottles and 1 of the kind he drinks from? And I have no idea how much he actually drinks per feeding. Should I be getting larger bottles at this point?

2) What do you pack the bottles in to make it safely to daycare? And I suppose I also need something separate to take the new full bottles home from work while the others are at daycare? Did you buy an extra set of Medela pump bottles?

3) What else needs to go to daycare with him besides diapers, his preferred pacifiers, a toy or 2, change of clothes, drool bibs? Burp cloths (we go through a lot at home)?

Thanks!
