@regberadaisy: Oh, I don't know about those then... I was going to say that if it was a Medela, then there's several pieces that you can replace if the suction goes down. It does sound like you have a clogged duct though :-( I would try pumping every 2 hours (like you're doing), and squeeze/massage it as much as you can during that session. And try to get your LO to nurse as much as possible. I hope you get some relief soon!

@MerryC: @pelikila: yea I always hand express after a pump session. And I always massage during pumping.

I honestly think there is something wrong with the pump. I just don't feel like it is sucking like it did from the beginning!
Had to stop because I was taking too long. Will try again in 2 hours instead of at 3 like my usual pump session...

I agree...hand expression is what worked for me with clogged ducts, also on the bottom of my breast. Soaked in both a hot tub and shower and hand expressed, massaginf the specific areas that were hard. My pump just wouldnt cut it...even a hospital grade.

Have you tried massaging during pumping and finish by hand expressing to help really empty your breast? This is the only thing that worked for me as my pump just wasn't effective enough at removing my milk.

@mrsjazz: interesting!

It's doing it again today! And it hurts! The top half is fine but the bottom half is lumpy hard. Trying to get my pump to suck it out because it's painful...

@regberadaisy: This happened to me last week and it was clogged ducts. The pump just couldn't get it. LO finally got it after about 4 nursing sessions--I had to switch the way I fed her, so instead of cradle I did football hold and I also fed her on all fours while she laid on the bed. Weird but changing LO's positions worked.

@yin: hm good point. Maybe they would be willing to send me a replacement kit which is $19.99 on their site.

If you feel that the pump isn't sucking as much, it could be an issue with the valve. If the valve is cracked or broken, it affects the ability for the pump to run efficiently. There could also be other issues with the pump. Maybe give the manufacture and call and see if they can troubleshoot over the phone.

From your description, it doesn't sound like mastitis... maybe just a clogged duct. Mastitis is usually followed by a bunch of other symptoms -- fever, chills, redness, and painful clogged duct. After you pump/nurse, if you feel relief and no lumps around your boob, then the clog should be cleared.

Have a couple pumping / gear questions.

Past week or two my pumping has been a little weird. I feel like it's not "sucking" as well??? Like when my letdown happens the milk still comes out like it does pre-letdown? Yet overall I'm still getting the same amount.

I wonder if I have a clogged duct?
Or perhaps maybe there's a pinhole in the tubing of my pump? How do I check that??

Thennn today my left boob was hurting but I didn't think it should be engorged?! I feel like last couple days my pump has not been emptying my boob due to aforementioned issue. So that could have been it. And M actually slept from 930-330 so it was a bunch less nursing sessions.
And the weird part is it was hurting in lumpy portions only on the bottom half of my boob. So my first thought was mastitis??

But if it is it would still hurt after pumping right? I pumped 30minutes earlier than I usually do and now it feels fine.

Sorry, I know it's a bunch of questions!

Thoughts??
