I always kept about 3-4 feedings' worth in the fridge (in separate bottles for easy grab-and-go feeding) and if I pumped and there was already 4 full feedings in there, I'd freeze the first bottles and refrigerate the freshly pumped milk. Does that make sense? So if you have 4-5 bottles (probably more for you since Jack is eating more frequently than my kids did at the time) of 2 oz each, and you pump 10 oz, then you can go ahead and freeze 3 of those 2 oz bottles into a 6 oz bag (I always froze 6 oz at a time to save bags and space), then pour the fresh 10 oz into new bottles (also filling the last bottle in the row up to the 2 oz). That way you'd end up after it all emptying 3 bottles to freeze, but adding 3-4 bottles to the end of the row.

Does that make sense?

It's a lot of bottles to wash..! But I sometimes would take the used bottles and just pop them back in the fridge to pump into for the next session. Or use them to fill with freshly pumped milk. And it's a good system to get into place because pretty soon the bottles will increase in volume, and what will end up happening is you will be freezing just one bottle's worth each time.

I really hope that makes sense...! So complicated!

Like others have mentioned I would give Frozen milk on Monday - then what I pump Monday he gets Tuesday, what I pump Tuesday he gets Wed, etc etc. Then Friday night I freeze anything I have left.

I think JoJo gave you get advice. Just make sure you give him the oldest milk first, fresh or frozen.

If you find yourself in a pinch and need milk like STAT, it only take a couple mins to run a bag under hot water to defrost.

Wow, that's an amazing output! I EP, but I usually pump 4-5 ounces per session and she eats 4 ounces, so I don't usually have any extra. She does get 2 formula bottles a day so that does give me a bit of leeway.usually once I get 15 stored ounces in the fridge I'll take 5 ounces and freeze it.

That is a great pumping output! I don't EP but @Adira:'s suggestion sounds similar to what I do for rotating through frozen milk for my LO while I work. Once a week she gets frozen and then she gets fresh the other four days. I also freeze whatever excess I won't use every couple of days.

When I first started pumping, I kept milk in the fridge for a few days before moving it to the freezer. I always had at least one or two bottles ready in the fridge and the rest could be frozen! Though I wasn't EPing, so I know that's different.

I definitely agree with @JoJoGirl: about cycling the milk though!

Here's what I think I would do if I was EPing. Let's say that your LO drinks 30 oz a day and you usually pump 40 oz. So pump the day and feed your baby as normal. At the end of the day, you want to have enough milk for the next day. Freeze anything extra. Then maybe once a week, freeze everything you pump for the day and pull out of the freezer the oldest of your stash for the next day's feeding. Does that make sense?

You are doing great! Keep going as long as you can.

I would plan for about two days worth of milk in the fridge. Once you have that freeze the rest.

WOW! You are pumping a LOT! That's great :) I used to keep milk in the fridge for 3-4 days before moving it to the freezer. So pump pump pump and keep it in the fridge, then if you feel like you have enough to feed him for a day or two, start cycling the oldest milk into the freezer.. does that make sense? Like once you hit say 20 oz in the fridge, you know you have enough to feed him for a couple of days, the next 6 oz you pump, you can move the oldest 6 oz into the freezer. That way you're building a stash but always have enough milk in the fridge to feel secure.

Okay, a few questions for those who pumped often or EP..

How do you start a freezer stash? I feel like as soon as I freeze some we will be ready for it and have to thaw, how do you get it started??

I'm getting anywhere from 6oz to 10oz per pump session and Jack is eating 2oz per feeding. How much do I keep in the fridge at a time?

I'm going to stop pumping after this month (I really hate it & it's. Causing some resentment bc J refuses to even try to latch) but while I am pumping I want to get as much saved up as possible so he can at least get breast milk for as long as possible without me having to continue pumping.

How do I get this ball rolling? I have probably 40oz in the fridge right now. Do I freeze what he won't eat today? TIA!
