6 months. Mashed avocado and also banana in a mesh feeder
Started with those because we had them on hand the day I decided it would be fun to start solids.

6 months. He had avocado, banana, and applesauce. His favorite purée combo at that age was sweet potato/avocado/pear.

We quickly moved on to giving him tastes of whatever was on our plate at about 8 months. He stopped liking purées at about that point.

We started with oatmeal + breast milk at 6 months and then moved onto sweet potatoes, carrots and butternut squash. Our pediatrician recommended starting with orange/yellow vegetables first and then move onto green ones.

Really interested in this! We'll be starting purées soon too. My friend said it's really easy to make your own, especially the beginning ones. I have a mini food processor that I think I'll use and just freeze it in ice cube trays.

With DS around 5 months with carrots, but started rice cereal around 4.5 months.
With DD closer to 6 months with carrots. No real why, it was just the first thing I decided on. The next few were sweet potatoes, avocado (mashed) and peaches.

@MrsH: we started with rice cereal and oatmeal cereal but the first purée we gave R was sweet potato. She loved it. She had sweet potato for the first time on Thanksgiving so she was closer to 5 months when we moved to vegetables and fruits. I figured sweet potato was a sure bet because of its sweetness.
