This is the guideline that I followed given to me by my pediatrician.
1. I started with baby oatmeal once a day.
2. Once he got the hang of that (he loved it), I added a meal. I started with veggies. I did take a one week break because it looked like he may have had a reaction to the food - a small rash that disappeared within a day.
3. After veggies try fruit.
4. Once he's tried most stage 1 foods, add a 3rd meal. This is around six months or so depending upon when you started.
5. I gave purées with meats around 6 months.

I pretty much followed this with DS1 and am now doing it with DS2. DS1 loved solids. As he got older, we just puréed what we ate and he ate that. Finger foods were also mixed in too.

We observed the three day rule for maybe a week and then it got too annoying. We don't have any special reason to think we will have any problems, so we just started feeding him stuff that seemed appropriate.

However, I did feed him peanut butter for the first time in the pediatrician's waiting room in case he had a reaction!

We mostly feed our son (in no particular order): sweet potato, butternut squash, string beans, apple, carrot, avocado, bread, oatmeal, chicken (usually mixed with another vegetable so it's not as dry), unsweetened Greek yogurt. He has also tried other fruits (melon, blueberries) and other foods (hummus, regular potato, polenta, pasta), usually when we are not at home and need to improvise.

We were feeding him two meals per day but now are doing a third meal before bedtime because it seems to reduce middle-of-the-night wakeups.

He is 7.5mo. He started solids at 5mos. We increased his solid intake at around 6mos because I was having supply issues when pumping. So, we replaced one bottle of milk with an extra meal and are careful to feed him water to make sure he gets hydrated.

I just asked our pediatrician this yesterday! He said there's no limit to how many meals/day, and the goal is to get her to 3 meals/day by 12 months. This really surprised me, but he said that new research actually contradicts offering only one thing at a time, so we aren't waiting anymore in between new foods. It seems logical to wait in between in case there's a reaction, but I'm listening to him anyway and going to start introducing new foods more frequently now!

In terms of how much, I feed her until she loses interest (like, yesterday she just wanted to watch the dogs, who were very interested in her banana and almond butter!) or gets fussy

ETA what have you offered so far? R has had avocado, peas, carrots, bananas, and almond butter so far, I'm trying to decide what's next for dinner tonight!

Are there guidelines for how much and how often you should feed babies purees? LO is six months, and we're now starting her on purees, but I don't know much about how to proceed. We've got her on new things every 3 days or so, and I know generally what I want to try. But how many times a day should she get them? What determines portion size? Is it possible to give them too much at this point?

Resources appreciated for this lost mama :)
