I used to do iPad or TV while I put the baby down. Right now my kids do media on weekends but not weekdays so I think you can do the two days a week. Once Monday rolls around it's, "no iPad right mommy?" - just set the expectation and she'll catch on fast and maybe she'll even look forward to the nights where you're solo and putting baby down, "ooooh I get to watch iPad!" - it'll be such a treat.

I did a TV show in the early days, but then I stopped doing that when the baby got easier to put down. Then it was fine for DD1 to hang with us for DD2's bedtime. I agree that if you need to use the iPad, just do it. :-p

My DD used to watch TV during that time when I had to put her brother down first (now they go to sleep at the same time). I was always solo and I needed her to stay in one place and stay out of trouble. I think 2 nights a week is fine... You can just tell her she only gets it when dad is not home at bed time, I think she will get it.

My 6 yr old goes down first and while I am doing that my 4 yr old is in her room coloring and/or putting stickers in her notebook.

However, do what works! If you need the iPad - use it!

What does your older child do when you're putting baby down?
I just recently switched it up so I put baby down for the night before her big sister. Their rooms are across from each other so I set DD1 up in her room with the iPad while I put DD2 down.

I'm thinking of doing a electronics detox for 2-3 weeks. But I'm not sure what to do about bedtime. I have this fear of her opening the exterior doors and walking away or worse, into the backyard where we have an inground pool. I don't trust that she'll stay put in her room without the iPad.

Can I do a detox and just let her use the iPad the two nights a week I do bedtime solo?
