DD1 (3) is actually sitting on the porch doing some now. She started loving them shortly after she turned 3 and was awful at them before that. The biggest she has done is probably 40 or so, shes content with that for now.

My son is really into 3-D puzzles, they're another option I didn't even realize existed until I began poking around.

My kid is 2 months shy of turning 3, and she's huge into puzzles. My toy budget is pretty much going to that entirely LOL Right now she's doing 24 piece puzzles easily and quickly, so we're trying to stretch to larger ones but I'm having a hard time finding bigger ones. Check out the Mudpuppy puzzles - there are boxed ones (25 pcs) that are great, and if anyone knows of good ones for toddlers that are more than 25 pcs, I'd love tips.

My 3.5yo will do 48 piece puzzles, and larger ones if she has help. We like Melissa and Doug, and can usually find them for cheap at TJ Maxx!

@ballerinabee: I would try a few different 24 pc or 35 pc puzzles. My parents had bought her a set of puzzles (12 pc, 24 pc, 35 pc) and once she got bored of them, i bought her a few more puzzles of similar difficulty and only moved her up once she mastered them without needing any help from me.

My LO really started getting into puzzles between 3 and 3.5. I find that the level of difficulty depends on the picture (i.e., lots of small pictures and different colours make it an easier puzzle). She can do 100 piece puzzles, but there are some 60 piece puzzles that can be more difficult. She will be 4 in a few weeks.

For the harder puzzles, i let her pick a picture she likes (read: Frozen haha) so that she's motivated to complete the puzzle. But i only move up a level once she has mastered a few puzzles - i can tell when she finishes the puzzle quickly on her own.

Have you looked at the Ravensburger puzzles? They have a great selection and nice quality.

@Bao: My 4 yo loves puzzles, and I think is outgrowing the 24 piece puzzles. He does them with confidence now, but that may be repetition. We got him a new one for his birthday in Feb and it still took him a little bit to put together. I'm not sure when we'll move up to the next size. I may talk to his pre-school teacher about it?

Is your LO into puzzles? If so, how many pieces are they doing?

My youngest is 2 and does wooden puzzles still and my 3.5 year old can do the 24 piece ones. I'm thinking of getting a few with more pieces to do with my 3 year old. I'm also wondering when the Melissa and Doug ones become too easy, and we should swap them out.
