We go through the same in disposables and cloths except overnight--so
6 in the daytime (average)
and
1 disposable at night, or one flushable insert at night, or 2 cloth at night.
Same from 8 weeks to 4.5 months.
Newborn--about 12/day.
Between newborn and 8 weeks... I don't know!

LO hates being wet--even in sposies. I think maybe he notices it more in sposies, if that's possible. We use the gCloths and he seems more tolerant of being wet in those than the gRefills or the disposables.

My daughter never really cared when she was wet, so we just changed a diaper every time we fed her... or if she pooped. Are you doing pocket diapers or something else? I find that the pocket diapers are better at wicking like disposables b/c the exterior of the pocket is made of wicking fabric. The wet all ends up soaked into the insert, which doesn't directly touch baby's skin.

Up until DD was around 4 months we'd sometimes change her 20+ times a day. She HATES being dirty/wet and even when she was in sposies while we treated a yeast rash she went through them just the same! UGH

Now she's 6 mths and we change around 12 times in a 24 hr period b/c she still poops often.

I change my LO every two hours. He also gets a new diaper right before his nap and another one right after he wakes up from his nap. I go through close to 8-9 diapers a day. He is 17 months old but I have been using the same diapering routine since the beginning.

My LO is 11 weeks old, and I think we go through 6-8 diapers as well, but that's only because I'm a lazy mommy. He rarely complains about pee, and sometimes, I only know there's a poopy diaper if I hear him pooping. :D I was afraid he was going to fussy about being wet but I guess I lucked out for now!

@FutureMrsMcK: wow 20 diapers a day? How often do you change him?
once we started using cloth around 5-6 weeks we would change every 2 hours so it was about 12 a day, and now its every 3 hours or if she poops so its about 6-8 a day, depending on if she sleeps through the night or not. My baby is the opposite though she hates being wet in a disposable diaper but never cries in the cloth diaper

Hmm.. I'd say probably 8-10 ish? Charlie doesn't mind being wet though so that cuts down the number by a lot I'm sure. We use the same as you, Elementals and Freetimes, with a 4.0 thrown in here and there.

At that age I know that I changed her whenever I heard a poop, which was hourly at least. Now (13 months), I change her more like 5 or 6 times a day. She doesn't get diaper rash, doesn't mind sitting in a slightly wet diaper for an hour or two. But whenever I open it up, it's wet.

If your baby truly can't stand wetness, I'd honestly look into some kind of disposable insert that absorbs better. Or a different kind of cloth. I know that I wouldn't change 18 diapers a day forever! And I'm a pretty big fan of cloth diapering.

No first hand experience here - but I have read of moms cutting up lightweight polar fleece and making liners to add a "stay dry" layer so it feels drier. Worth a shot?

My LO doesn't care if her diaper is wet. It can be soaking and she doesn't say a word. She's 14 months old and I change her every 2 hours on a normal day (way more lately because she has a diarrhea issue right now.....) unless of course she poops.

I have a friend who uses sposies and her LO would always make them change her the second she pee'd. Just depends on the baby!

@Chastenet: E screams bloody murder the second he's wet. Sometimes we'll need to change his diaper 2-3 times an hour. It's ridiculous.

@MusicaV: We're using a mix of BG AIO Freetime and Elementals.

@FutureMrsMcK: What kind of diapers are you using (prefolds, AIO, pocket)? DS is 2.5 weeks old, and I've changed 4 diapers in the last six hours, which is more than usual. We usually go through 10-11 per day. I think it may be because I've been using prefolds all morning, and he feels wetness faster in them? We have a diverse stash, and I usually mix it up.

Same age as your little guy :) She goes through about 7-9 diapers a day. She totally doesn't care about being in wet/dirty diapers though and tends to poo several times in rapid succession so I don't change her immediately.

I just looked at my app and my LO had 12-15 dirty diapers a day around nine weeks!

She is now 9 months old and goes through 7-9 diapers a day.

I keep reading on the interweb that we should be getting 4-6 wet diapers a day (E is almost 9 weeks old), but we usually average between 18-20 wet diapers a day.

We're thinking it's because he HATES being wet, and can feel it in the cloth. The disposables he was in at the beginning were so absorbent that we could never feel the wetness when we changed him, only the heavy gel-filled thing.

How old is LO, and how many cloth diapers does s/he generally go through a day?
