Yes, this year I have tried to buy quality toys over a lot of crappy stuff. We have definitely pared back this year. I also find myself doing that in other areas of my life as well.

@looch: Oh this was like wanting every blind bag, so I did get 2-3, definitely a compromise but those suckers are pricey and get ignored quickly anyway.

Quality over quantity, we don't do lots of gifts just for the sake of giving them lots of stuff. We try to give them what they want, and I tend to look for the nicer options when feasible.

Well, it depends...this year my son asked for a lot of lower priced items as opposed to one big item as he did last year. I wouldn't ignore what he wanted just because it would make my life easier, it's about providing what he wants within reason.

But in general, yes, I do prefer quality over quantity in some things.

Definitely! DD will only have a couple of things from DH and I to open this year. They are nice and will hopefully get a few years of play. I think she would be overwhelmed with a lot of little things. Similarly DH is getting two gifts from me. He loves gifts (giving and receiving) so it was hard to limit myself. But he's wanted these things for a while and he'll be sooo excited.

Are you more about quality of gifts over quantity? I absolutely am, I would rather give someone one really good gift vs 2-3 just ok quality gifts. I started doing my moms Christmas shopping for her a few years back (for my nieces and nephews), and in years prior I would just try and get as many different things from the kids lists as I could. Now I am going for quality, and the kids are only getting about 2-3 things this year instead of 7-8. I hope they understand!

I'm doing the same with my kids, I would much rather have quality stuff around than a bunch of crappy toys. So that meant I ignored some of the things on their lists, but i doubt they will even notice! My MIL prefers to get a bunch of smaller gifts, equaling about $5 each, so they have a "lot" vs just one good toy.
