@MUI831: Thank you. I wasn't trying to bring down the thread by the way, just to demonstrate what I was able to do around that time.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I was hoping to hear that things should be ok. The bonus part of this is that since I'll be with family, everyone will jump at the chance to take care of DS while I rest.

@mandb36: I'm so sorry for your loss.

@highwire: I'll be sure to head over!

I didn't have any major tears, and I was ok comfort wise after about a week as long as I rested, and wasn't on my feet for long periods of time. Riding in the car never bothered me, even riding home from the hospital.

I think you should be fine but everyone is different. This was a bit different but my FIL passed away when I was 2.5 weeks pp. I did fine driving back and forth to our hometown two hours away twice as well as going to all the arrangements while taking care of my LO pretty much all by myself so my husband could grieve.

I was still a bit sore but it wasn't too bad at all. But like I said, everyone is different.

I was sore for sure, but I was leaving the house within 5 days after having the baby. I had 30 stitches and lots of tears. I didn't stop feeling pain until 6 weeks pp.

However, my girlfriend was in NO PAIN after having her LO, and went to the county fair for hours like a week after her baby was born. SO I think it depends on your own personal labor and delivery experience.

I would say to expect to be gone no longer than 1-2 hours. Although it is nice to get out and get some fresh air, you will be wanting your own house, comfy clothes, and your own bed after a while.

I was sore but we had a pedi appt Monday (delivered Thursday night) so off we went. I was really weak and we went right home after.

That Thursday I think we ventured to BRU & I was ok. Plus, if you're going to family, you'll be able to sit. Just bring any pain meds & pp supplies (pads, tucks, extra unders) to be safe.

However, , you might find you feel fine 2 days pp or still hurting 3 weeks later..tough to tell! I'm still in pain 2.5 wk pp but still go out.

I'm due on 11/11 but have a feeling that I'll go late. This means that DS will only be about 1-2 weeks by Thanksgiving. I've already said that we're not doing the big Thanksgiving dinner at my grandparents as I'm not comfortable bringing a 1-2 week old to my grandparents house with 35+ people. However, at some point that weekend, I will want to venture out and see my immediate family (my three brothers and their families) as they'll all be in town.

My question is this:

At this point after giving birth, were you even able to leave the house? In talking to a friend of mine, she said at that point a 15 minute car ride was really uncomfortable. My parents live about 30 minutes away so it wouldn't be too far. However, I just want to set realistic expectations for that weekend. Unfortunately, we live in a tiny place in the city so it's not feasible to have everyone over to our place.
