@Kbee: I mentioned it on the poas thread, but the only "real" reason I've ever been given to wait was to let my uterine lining recover. But my first was at 9.5 weeks, and second around 5, so they weren't chemicals. I don't really get why it matters for dating. But I agree with you on wanting to wait until you have at least one real period. I hate that you're going through this, and that it's so confusing!

Also, just fyi, I'm another success after loss story. 18 weeks today! They also agreed to do testing after just two losses (and insurance didn't complain, to my knowledge), but in my case everything came back perfectly normal. I was a little bummed because it left me with nothing I could "do" to prevent it from happening again, but it also made me feel better because the odds of 3 miscarriages in someone with no issues that could cause them are very, very low. It helped me feel a bit more confident this time around, and kept me from *totally* stressing through the first trimester. So I hope you're able to get some testing done, for some peace of mind.

Good luck going forward!

@Mrs.Someone: thanks for your help  I am interested in at least some testing, so I will try and find someone who will agree. And CONGRATS on your pregnancy! It's encouraging to hear a good story!

@SwedishFish: I gotcha. The various practitioners I've seen over the last few weeks have not really been very helpful and haven't wanted to answer my questions other than just telling me the m/c was complete back in March. Oh well!

@SpanielLove: Thanks! I'm so sorry that you had losses too  I did figure their rec to wait was based on dating purposes. But since I've had 2 back to back, I did want to make sure I have a REAL period before I start TTC again. I don't want to lose another pregnancy and want my body/lining to be ready. I'm sure my hcg will be below 5 within a matter of days based on the progress so far. So to TTC 3 weeks from now (if I O on time), or the cycle after? Agh! Thanks for your help though

I'm sorry you're going through all of this. I've had a few m/c's and my RE didn't consider the m/c to be over (despite bleeding) until my HCG was down to under 5.

One of the reasons they tell you to wait a cycle is for dating purposes, and in this case it seems like the safest thing to do might be to wait until you're absolutely sure you have a negative beta before trying. I have been there with having a pregnancy the cycle after a chemical and it can be confusing trying to explain the LMP being m/c bleeding thing.

@Kbee: I'm not a doctor but I've read that miscarriage bleeding can come and go. Since your hCG is above 5 then I would believe it's miscarriage related bleeding.

@Kbee: Actually I think you can have a real period with an HcG of 10, ovulation might just be a little later than usual.

Sorry your NP is dismissing it :( my 2 losses were also super early like yours, and my naturopath was more than willing to do testing. It depends on the provider though. Many insurance companies won't cover it until you've had 3, but mine did cover it without any issues. And I'm glad I did it, because we found some issues to treat (autoimmune), and I'm now 21w pregnant. You're doing the right thing by switching providers though, if they aren't supportive then its time to try someone else. I hope your next one is better!

@Mrs.Someone: Also, thanks for the note about RPL testing. I'm so sorry that you have had losses as well  I'm a grad student and have only been seeing a NP in the campus health center so far. She quickly dismissed my chemicals as "not real miscarriages" and said I had nothing wrong with me but that I needed to wait a few cycles. I'm actually going to try and get a new patient appointment at a OB/GYN office soon. Would they do RPL testing?

@swedishfish: @mrs.someone: Thanks for your responses. So you are thinking because my hcg is still elevated that it's bleeding related to the m/c and is not a real period? I was hoping my body had already gone through a "cycle" since 3/16, but maybe it hasn't even started yet??

Sorry to hear you're going through this :( if your last level was 10, its likely that it will be down to 0 within a few days.

If you've had 2 in a row, maybe ask your doctor about RPL testing? I have plenty of information on it if you need some. I hope you get some answers soon...

If your hCG is 10 then that's still positive for pregnancy. My OBGYN wanted my hCG to be under 5 to confirm my miscarriage was over. Hugs. Hopefully your levels drop soon.

I've had 2 back to back chemical pregnancies now. The first one in February was straightforward where I had some positive HPTs, started bleeding 6 days later, and only 3 days after that had a negative test. I conceived again 3 weeks later...

The bleeding from the 2nd chemical pregnancy started on 3/16 and lasted for only 3 days. But now I'm bleeding AGAIN 21 days later.

So my main question is, could this be my period after only 3 weeks?

Here's some back story if you want it, because it's been a little nuts:

I had negative HPTs prior to the bleeding on 3/16, so I thought the bleeding was AF arriving late. A week later I actually got a BFP after getting a positive OPK. They wanted to monitor my hcg because of the bleeding that I had, and sure enough the levels were going down slowly. From that and an empty uterus on u/s they concluded the bleeding from the week before was an early m/c. They diagnosed it as a "complete abortion" that occurred on 3/16 at about 4w5d or so. On another note, I had signs of ovulation the same day I had a positive HPT (3/24), which now I realize was CD 9. At the time I ignored it because I thought I was pregnant. That day my hcg was 228, so I'm not sure if it's possible that I ovulated or not. Regardless, here I am on CD 21 with period-like bleeding. My hcg yesterday was 10. I am really hoping this is a real period, but am concerned that it could be more m/c bleeding.

Any ideas? I'm hoping hoping hoping it's a real period because we don't want to wait another cycle to TTC again!
