From the picture, it looks as though the dips don't affect the typical height of the railings. What a beautiful crib!

I've actually seen some that have more of a dip than that. As a 5 foot tall person, I now wish I had gotten a crib with a dip. I'm unfortunately on my tip toes when I put my LO in his crib ever since we lowered the mattress.

i figured the "dip" was because the front is suppposed to be a "footboard"... when you convert it.

I'd assume that the tiny dip doesn't really make that much difference. It only looks big because the back "headboard" part is so raised.

I think they have to dip so you can easily put the baby in and out of the crib. You can lower the mattress when they get older so they can't get out so easily.

So ILs graciously offered to buy us a crib at Babies R Us (no cost limit!) because they purchased BIL's crib for his baby.

However, they said they need to buy it by February 20th (when I will be 9 weeks). Annoying, but I guess if they're paying, whatever. I'll just make sure they hang on to the receipt.

Anyway..I was at BRU last night browsing the cribs, and there are some beautiful ones! The thing that makes me wonder, though, are the dips in the front rail. Does that give a baby less height to scale when they want to escape? Or is the lowest point as high as some other cribs? I hope that makes sense.

Example: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4466026
