Similar to @brownie, I kept hearing all the great stories and thought that that had to happen to me! I don't have experience with IVF, but 14 days after my IUI, my HCG level was 16. Two days later it went down to a negative result, which led to a CP. They also warned me about a possible ectopic pregnancy, which thankfully did not happen.

Good luck to your friend, though. I really hope that she ends up in the "good story" category! :)

I had a positive home pregnancy test 5 days past transfer so we were ecstatic. Then I got the 11 dpt beta and it was only a 51. I was beyond scared and from what I read had a 50% chance of miscarriage. Luckily, it more than doubled two days later, then tripled the next time and my son is 15 months old now!! Really, there is nothing your friend can do but wait and see, but man is it the scariest time ever!! Just be there for her. :)

I had this happen to me and I loved hearing the good stories but I wish I could have seen more of the bad stories so I could have a true idea of what the chances where. I did a 5 day transfer and on 11 dpt or 16 dpo I had a 12. It was a chemical pregnancy. The second one we did I had positive HPT from day 6 to day 10 and on day 11 it was a 5.01 so a negative blood test. Another chemical pregnancy.

So unfortunately it could go either way right now.

Yep! Just like above.

My number at 14 dpo was 22, and at 16 dpo it was 143 ... I was SO nervous when I got the 22 back from my doctor, but when she called 2 days later with the 143, I was ecstatic. Sending best wishes to your friend!! :)

Ditto above --- the doubling is more important than the actual number.

My first beta with Chloe at 13DPO was 11. Two days later it was 27 and then in the 100s. I have a two year old now!

From what I understand, the important thing in the beginning is the amount of time it takes for the HCG levels to double, and not so much about the actual numbers themselves. Good luck to your friend, I hope she gets good news with her second beta!

ETA: I know there have been some ladies here who have had low initial HCG results, hopefully they'll chime in :)

hello all!

my dear friend is going through IVF right now and is feeling very hopeless and is having a hard time reaching out to people, asking questions etc so i've decided to ask on here for her!

she just completed and ivf cycle and put two embryos in at 3 days - one was a blast one was not. today she went in for her blood test and had very low HCG levels but a positive pregnancy test (this is 14 days post transfer) - she is very nervous that since her levels are so low at this point that she is going to be having an early miscarriage or chemical pregnancy.

they have asked her to go back again on wednesday to test again with the hopes that HCG has doubled or tripled.

i guess my question is at this point in the game, is she out of luck? i know it's possible that this could be chemical, but i wonder if people have seen hcg levels rise dramatically between 14dpt to 16dpt.

hope to hear from you guys! thanks!
