Just flew Delta with a lap nfant and Delta's official policy is no extra carry ons for a lap infant, but you can check both a car seat and a stroller for free. That being said, I would just do the backpack as a personal item and be sure you could stuff your purse into your carryon or the backpack. But check your airline. Some give a lap infant a diaper bag.

This would be in addition to my carry on. But yes, I totally forgot you can bring a purse and carry on huh? I'll try and count that as a purse. Thanks for your help :)

Mine took a backpack once, and the flight attendant told me I needed to combine it with/into one of my bags. I had actually bought a ticket for LO, so she backed down but would've given me a hard time otherwise. Maybe it could count as your personal item if you only have one other bag?

Each airline has different rules. I flew air Canada and my LO got her own carry on as a lap infant. In addition to my two carry ons and a diaper bag!

Is this in addition to a carry on? Every time I've flown with my son he's gotten his own carry-on.

An even easier solution is to put it on a carabiner that can hook onto the strap of your carry on bag. I always use a little backpack for each of my girls (to hold a snack, drink, and the few toys/books they'll need during boarding and take off), and have never been questioned.

@catomd00: that's what I was thinking. A tiny backpack. Just wanted her to have something is she goes and sits with my husband and vice versa. Thanks!

Technically they're not entitled to a carry on, but I always bring her little PBK backpack and never had issues with it. Just make sure it's small enough to stash in your carry on if they say anything.
