Thanks everyone for your advice. He slept in it for 3 nights and napped, no problem at all. Such a relief :)

I did stop using the top portion when she got close to 15 lbs. We never added any kind of extra mattress or padding to the PNP, I don't think babies need that stuff. She always slept perfectly well in it. You know, up until the day she suddenly decided she didn't want to be left out of the evening activities and hauled up and climbed out of it.

Ours didn't come with a bassinet, so we only ever used the bottom (first time at four months). He doesn't seem bothered by the pad that it came with and hasn't had an issue switching between the crib and PNP.

I stopped using the top portion once the kids reached 15 pounds. By that time I could put them down awake so it was easy to put them in bottom. Before that it would have been super awkward trying to bend down and put them so low without waking. I just use the mattress that came with it but have a cushy quilt I put on top of it and kinds tuck it around the edges so it can't move. My DD always slept great in the pNp. DS (same age as your little guy) has only slept a few times in it but so far so good. Good luck!

@Goldengirl: I bought a twin-sized egg crate and cut it it to fit. My kid was older though, I didn't do that until she was a year. But it did make it more comfortable for her!

We stopped using the bassinet portion at 15 lbs. I also got a quilted sheet for the bottom that seemed to make it more soft. I actually felt like my LO slept better when we transitioned him to the bottom. The bassinet portion wasn't stable enough, so when he would move in his sleep, the bassinet would shake a little and wake him up. He slept much better once he was on the bottom.

we continued for a while but it ended up bending and breaking the packnplay mattress so now we have it on the bottom and have to reinforce it.

We have a foldable mattress that is awesome. If you don't want to buy a mattress I've found putting on a quilted mattress pad then sheet adds enough padding.

@Goldengirl: It's $35 and totally worth it to me. For me I also liked that the mattress made it quieter - when they roll and thrash around on the PNP pad it's louder than the mattress.

@Mrs. Goose: Thanks, that makes me feel a lot better. He's been sleeping so well and I'm scared to mess with it, but no other option! And don't want to purchase a separate mattress for it when we barely use it.

We stopped using the top part once LO could pull herself up a little ... I was afraid she'd fall out. I didn't realize there was a weight limit (but I don't think we were using the bassinet part, we just had the mattress in the top/suspended position).

LO has never had an issue switching between crib, travel cot, pnp mattress, or camping pad. I mean, she's a horrible sleeper, but I don't think it's a matter of comfort.

I discontinued using the top part even before 15 pounds just because it freaked me out. I feel like on the ground essentially is safer. I was always concerned about her sleep in it when we travelled vs her crib for those same comfort reasons because she slept so well in her crib, but it has never been a problem. And also, though it seems uncomfortable to us, their bodies are so little and they are likely not uncomfortable at all because there is so little weight to press on the flat board to be uncomfortable. My 6 year old neice still sleeps over on our floor by my bed no problem when she stays over. I remember when someone told me that about babies not being uncomfortable like we would be and it has been true! (At least in my life with my baby/toddler and others who I know).

We got the Dream on Me PNP mattress and our kids slept in them awesome. My youngest slept in one for over a year!

Neither of my kids batted an eye when we switched them out of the bassinet part and I felt like it was much safer anyway.

We only use a pnp for DD. We stopped using the bassinet insert when she started rolling, but she was 12lbs. No problem transitioning to sleeping on the bottom. We got a mattress to fit our pnp to make it more comfortable, since it's her primary bed. It's important to get a mattress that fits tightly with no gaps for safety.

LO is over 15lbs now which I think means it's no longer recommended he sleep on the bassinet (higher level) of the Pack N Play. We'll be taking it to the cottage and using it as a travel crib. For those of you who've used it for sleeping, did you discontinue the bassinet use at 15lbs? And were they just as happy sleeping on the very bottom?

Also is there any way to make it more comfy in there? The "mattress" is so thin and flimsy and since he sleeps in his crib, I'm worried it'll be uncomfortable and he won't sleep!
