@cmomma17: My step sisters will be bringing dessert as well. They usually do a rum cake or cookies so there will be other options, too!

Some kind of bread! Biscuits would be amazing, or you could do sweet pita chips (like with cinnamon sugar on them).

Will you have more than one dessert? I'm not a big pumpkin fan myself

Pumpkin butter needs a bread!

It looks more like....a pudding of some kind.

@tlcbaby: Exactly. Something like this, that just uses nuts, no grains http://paleomg.com/paleo-granola/

My other thought was to make a brittle, but then you're getting into a lot of sugar which doesn't capture the spirit of making a paleo dessert.

@Revel: Hmm like a granola type topping you could sprinkle on top? That might work.

This looks delicious and I would totally eat it as is, but I think @hilsy85: put her finger on what I was thinking. Calling it an apple butter makes me think it needs bread.

My first thought was to maybe offer ice cream, if you're okay with the dish not being totally paleo, but then that is kind of soft-on-soft. Maybe add some kind of crunchy topping?

@hilsy85: I kinda thought that too - to me, pumpkin butter means it needs a muffin or bagel for spreading!

I would call it something different, like pudding--calling it a butter makes it sound like it's supposed to be put on bread!

You could serve it with a type of sweet bread for non-paleo guests ?

If you were making this Crockpot Apple Pumpkin Butter ( http://civilizedcavemancooking.com/crockpot/apple-pumpkin-butter ) for Christmas dinner dessert, would you serve it with anything or just serve it up in a bowl as is? It has chopped apples and walnuts in it so I think it could stand alone, but since we have been doing paleo for a while and our families are not paleo, I want to make sure they will like it, too.
