@Chuckles: I have accepted the offer, officially starting my new job in a little over two weeks. I was not looking but knew my current situation wasn't a good fit long term so when an opportunity came to me I jumped on it.

Glad to hear things are going a little better in your current position. I absolutely hate when prospective employers are not communicative. It is so rude to not even acknowledge receipt when you put in all that effort.

@Bluemasonjar: Congratulations! Are you going to take the new job?
I turned in the work sample last Monday and felt pretty good about it, but I haven't heard anything. Not even a - we received your sample and we'll be in touch. It's frustrating since I was asked to put in a good amount of time to not even hear an official no. I wasn't even sure I wanted to switch jobs and my current job has been a little better recently, so I'm okay with it. I'd just like to know for sure one way or the other.

@Bluemasonjar: That's a great thing to hear at the end of the interview!
Mine is a work sample thing that I do at home. It's due Monday afternoon. I'm glad I have some time to work on it, but I've never had to do anything like that before. I am reading through sample projects and giving constructive feedback and then written responses to a few scenarios.

@Bluemasonjar: thanks for the reassurance!

And of course I'm a ridiculous perfectionist. After I posted a few minutes ago, I got an email to participate in a round 2 interview :silly:

Totally natural to think of what else you could have said after the fact. I would definitely follow up with a thank you email and include any key points that you feel would be beneficial to add as a continuation of the conversation.

Tie it back to one of the questions or areas of discussion from the interview. Ex, how you would be a good fit because of X experience or skill.

@LadyDi: Thanks, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I don't usually have quite so many "ooh, I wish I had said" moments. I guess it's a good thing I wasn't completely sure I wanted the job anyways :)

@karenbme: and @LadyDi: Yes, I definitely sent the standard follow-up thank you. @karenbme: I like your wording on how to add more information. There wasn't anything completely glaring that I left out, it was just more the overhaul thoroughness of my responses. I'm hoping it was less of a disaster than I think.

I agree that a thank you note where you reiterate your interest is standard at this point. If you wanted to elaborate on one of your responses that you think could’ve been better in that note I could see that adding value, but definitely don’t make excuses or talk about being sleep deprived. It’s too bad the interview wound up being at a tough time. 🙁

I know this feeling. I know I'm a good worker and employee but interviewing gives me so much anxiety and no matter how much I prepare I always struggle to think on my feet and I feel like I do not interview well. That being said, as someone who has also been an interviewer/hiring manager I always appreciated a thank you after an interview. I wouldn't make an excuse for yourself, but I think it's fine to thank them for their time and reiterate how interested you are in the position.

I'm interested to see what others have to say!

I just had a job interview yesterday, and I'm totally kicking myself and rethinking a bunch of my answers to questions. That happens to me after every interview, but I feel like especially this time. As much as you can prepare ahead of time, you're still thinking on your feet in the moment, and it's so easy to come up with better answers when you've had more time to process the question. That's normal, right? I'm also a total perfectionist at work, so I hate that people might come away with an impression of me that isn't my very best work.
DD has been sick this week, so I was also on day 4 of not a ton of sleep. I wish I could email the interviewer and say, I feel like I wasn't as thorough with my answers as I could have been, but I was really sleep-deprived. That would be super unprofessional, and I know I can't do it. I can't, right??
