@MamaJ: I know, I could never understand how crock pot meals are supposed to be "easy" since how do you prep all that stuff in the morning? Finally figured out how to make it work ;-)

@Mamaof2: Haha I actually never thought about that.. Now I'm sitting here thinking about whether that would actually happen. I would say no, unless the insert was actually frozen. hahaha...

@T-Mom: @septca: putting the stuff in the crock pot the night before is GENIUS! Thank you! I want to use the crock pot for a few meals but I was like crap, it's going to take me time in the morning to prep. Why didn't I think if this?!

@swurlygurl: raw meat is scary to me too ha. Plus I was a vegetarian for 6 years so I am really leery of the proper handling of meat.

I do this frequently! Although I'm weird and will keep chicken in a separate bag than veggies, any other meat I combine it all together.

I do this all the time. Prep the night before, and the start the crock pot the next morning (I store the prepped items in the "crock" part in the refrigerator overnight) or pop the dish in the oven the next evening. No problem.

Another good option - when you make something that is easy to make in bulk, make a double batch and stick half in the freezer. I do this a lot for things like soups, stews, spaghetti sauce, lasagna, chicken parmesan, baked chicken dishes, etc. Then it's super easy to take something out to defrost in the morning and stick it in the oven when you get home.

I mix raw meat with veggies 12 - 24 hours in advance. It would make me a little nervous to do longer than a day, but I don't know why, raw meat is just kinda scary... haha

We do it. Just obviously make sure it's cooked properly and you'll be fine.

I don't see that this would be an issue.. I prepped my crockpot meal last night.. that involved raw chicken, raw veggies, etc. I put the insert in the fridge overnight with all the raw ingredients and set it in my crockpot this morning to cook during work hours. I do this all the time and have never had a problem!

This is probably a dumb question, but I am cooking noob. I am planning on prepping dinners either at the beginning of the week or the night before, so when DH and I get home from work we can just pop it in the oven.

Can I put meat (chicken or fish) with vegetables to sit overnight in the fridge, then put it in the oven the next day? Or is that a no no and will make us sick? I found a few recipes like "salmon packs" where you wrap the veggies/salmon in foil and put it in the oven. But could I do this the night before?

Thanks for answering my dumb question
