Ok, well I just went ahead and paid for the ticket anyways online. So now I've done both traffic school AND paid for the ticket. I have verification of both - transaction IDs, receipts, records. The online ticket payment system says it takes 1-2 business days to process, but as long as I paid "on or before the court date" it says I'm fine.

I think I should be able to call on Monday at 8AM and speak to a court administrator who should be able to assure me of the status of my ticket and give me directions. If I can't get through at 8am, I will call at 10:30 and then again at noon and then again at 3:30. If I can't get through to anyone on Monday to assure me of my status, I guess I will have my husband drive me back and forth from work while my ticket is "pending." I can also take a half-day from work on Wednesday to go to the court and/or the DMV with all my paperwork and speak to someone in person.

Any other feedback about this is still welcome.

I would definitely still appear. I'm not taking any chances on something like that, personally.

@pwnstar: It's possible that I'm misunderstanding this, but it seems very clear on the ticket that there are two types of tickets: civil and criminal. This is a civil ticket. It says that if I fail to appear for a civil traffic violation, there is a fine and a suspension until the fine is paid. A "warrant" is only mentioned in the "criminal traffic" section, which is not the category of this ticket....?

Also, if worse comes to worse, I can pay the ticket online on Monday, or afterward. I just don't want to pay a $200 ticket and get the points on my license when I already paid $200 for traffic school to avoid this.

You should appear. Failure to do so could result in not only your license being suspended, but also a bench warrant being issued as well. So if you were to get pulled over, the situation could get much worse. Until the court has all of the required information and you have been formally relieved of you obligation to appear, you should appear.

I would not go, but I would write down the name of the person who assured me that I was not required to attend and what time I spoke to them.

I was in a very minor fender bender about 3 weeks ago. I was at fault ( ) and I got a civil traffic ticket, and I was eligible for driving school. I did driving school online on Saturday Nov 7th, because the traffic school due date was Monday Nov 9th. They set their due dates a week before your required court date, so that they have that week to get your paperwork and fees can be processed.

I got an automated voicemail this evening saying I am expected to arrive in court on Monday. The online ticket system says my ticket/case is "pending." Of course, phone number for the court only works 8am-5pm, and I'm expected to arrive at 8:30am. I called the Traffic School's 24/7 hotline and they assured me that my completion certificate had been electronically filed with the courts last week, but that my diversion fee hadn't transferred yet, and that's why my case is still technically "pending." She said I don't need to go to court, because supposedly on Monday they will check and see that I have completed traffic school (based on the electronic records system). She estimated my fee would be processed and my case "closed" by/on Wednesday or Thursday and "this happens all the time." This explanation makes total sense to me, but it still makes me nervous. However, I can't go into court on Monday, and I can't call the court until my lunch hour at noon.

Has something like this ever happened to you? What was your experience? Would you trust the "pending paperwork" explanation and just call on Monday, or would you go to court on Monday even if it would be extremely difficult because of work?

Since it is a civil traffic ticket, the worst outcome is that I would face a fine for "not" doing traffic school and my driver's license would be suspended until I paid the fine. But by the time that all gets processed, it seems they would have processed my traffic school forms/fees.
