I think the weeks are like your birthday. For example, I'm 28 years old, but I'm in my 29th year of life. When a baby is born, they are in their first year of life, but aren't considered 1 years old yet.

So if you are 8 weeks, you're in your 9th week. (I'm also 8 weeks along and in my 9th week).

Different people count this differently but I think t you are 8 weeks + you are in your 8th week. its just simpler that way. The same way that this is july and its the 7 th month of the year rather than the 8th month.

I believe they count the weeks starting from the first day of the week, so like the others have said, you are done with week 8 and starting week 9.

I was reallllly confused too because if I count the # of weeks based on my last menstrual cycle, I would have been 6 weeks at my previous obgyn appt. Turns out I o'd really late and I was only 4ish weeks along!!

@chopsuey119: Yes, counting from the first day of my last cycle. @mrskc: @JessLC: Makes sense.

So ultimately, really, any time in the next two weeks I can go for my dating U/S? I'm so excited! I would go today if I could, LOL!

Said another way, you have completed 8 weeks and you are now in your 9th week. By the end of this week, you will have completed 9 weeks. Generally when people talk about weeks along, they talk about it in the former way, i.e. how many weeks you have completed.!

Your are 8 weeks along, but in your 9th week. Make sense?

After you have your dating U/S, your due date may change and how many weeks along your are will change as well.

are you counting from the first day of your last menstrual cycle? or if your cycle is longer, do you have an idea of when you O'd?

I don't think you need to go in exactly at 9 weeks. I had my dating ultrasound at 6 weeks 5 days!

My apps are confusing me with the weeks too. I think they are ahead of themselves in order to keep throwing new information at us.

I feel so dumb for asking this, but I'm totally confused and I hope someone can answer this for me. So my doctor told me I needed to get my dating ultrasound at 9 weeks and come back for my prenatal 2 appointment at 10 weeks. My "What to Expect" app says I'm 8 weeks 1 day today, which to me, means I'm 8 weeks. BUT when I look at the weekly section, it gives the date (July 22-28) and says Week 9 at the top.

What way am I supposed to be counting this?! Of course I'm excited to go get my ultrasound, I just want to make sure I'm doing everything when I should be doing them and not a week too early/late.

Again, I feel so dumb for asking, LOL! Thanks for the help!
