@mediagirl: In regards to the crying when trying to burp between sides... that's totally normal! They like the sucking and don't want to stop :-) I would still try to burp in between sides, even if DD was crying, just so I could help her make more room for more milk.

Totally normal. We had this happen too. Our pediatrician said that there's a delay until they feel full, so they end up eating more than they need and then just spit up the extra. (Just like adults, that's why they tell us to eat slowly).

@mediagirl: E will sometimes be upset and fussy even though he is full after a feeding. I think he really just wants to comfort suck, so sometimes I'll pop in his pacifier right after he unlatches. If I let him keep eating he'll overindulge and end up spitting up. If he won't take the pacifier and is continuing to fuss, then I know he's actually still hungry.

If it was the first time in a while that she was breastfed, it might have to do with the speed at which it was coming out too. She probably was use to adjusting her sucking with the bottle to slow down when she was getting full and it might take her a couple of times to do so at the breast.

Mine has done the immediate spit-up before I get him vertical to burp a few times. I think it has to do with how relaxed or not he is. When I feed him in the middle of the night, he doesn't spit up at all, and during the day when he is all excited he spits up on the burp. (I've got a major spitter-upper. He will keep spitting-up even an hour or more after a feeding if he does anything like a tummy time or if he gets excited. He's a big baby so we're not concerned, but I sometimes wonder how he gets so big while spitting up so much!)

@chopsuey119: Hahaha uh... I did that too... But in my defense, she didn't seem satisfied, she was still fussing. Gah! This is why I quit! Babies are a mystery!

@Coco Bee: so, when he unlatches, he is done and happy? Has he ever unlatched and not been finished?

@mediagirl: it might be air bubbles too.. ? infants are still a mystery to me!

@Mrsbells: @Coco Bee: dang. when did your LOs start unlatching?
come to think of it, my LO would unlatch, and I'd put my boob back in her mouth because I wanted her to fall asleep. HAHA. my bad. :(
I overfed my EBF baby. poor thing.

My son spits up ten times more during breastfeeding than bottle-feeding!! I don't think it's cause he's overfed; he's about 25th percentile for weight and he's EBF. He's always unlatched when he's done

Yes, I pumped a lot the first 2 months because of issues with breastfeeding. I was always discouraged because she spit up a lot after nursing but my LC said it was normal and LO was just getting adjusted to boob flow.

Maybe both breasts was too much for her? Although I have also been told you cant overfeed a breastfed baby and my baby unlatches when she is full

@mediagirl: did you burp her between boobs? my guess is yes..! I overfed my LO like crazy because I wasn't sure she was getting enough.. I think that's why she was always in the 95-98th% for weight when she was EBF. haha. :P

My LO used to spit up milk and sometimes it came out of her nose! Everyone used to tell me that you can't overfeed a breastfed baby, but I'm pretty sure I over fed her..
I would just let her comfort nurse and she'd get a lotttta milk. haha.

Back story: I stopped breastfeeding around 4 or 5 weeks because it just wasn't working. She wasn't gaining weight and I was stressed out to my wits end. I started pumping exclusively for her. That helped me calm down and see how much I was producing.

This week, I decided to try doing one bf session a day. Today was the first day I have fed her on both sides. When she was done, she popped off and spit up a ton of liquid almost immediately. Is that normal? She sometimes spits up after a bottle but it will be a bit of time afterwards, not immediately afterwards.
