The only time I noticed a difference was after a night where I was borderline wasted. I don't think I went to bed all that late and can't remember how early/late I woke up but I remember quite a temp spike.

RE Progesterone...although my pattern was the same this month as last, my post-O temps were lower (though still above the coverline - which was the same).

So that also has me thinking Progesterone might be low. But then...this random spike would be even more odd, wouldn't it?

@MaryM: I was gonna say low progesterone. As for pregnancy it certainly can't be ruled out but all that spotting would concern me too. I hope you get good news.

@septca: Yeah. It didn't worry me as much last month because it went away post-O, but this non-stop business needs to go away!

I've had low progesterone in the past so I'm guessing it's probably related to that. Or to PCOS (though in the past, PCOS caused me to have super long cycles with little bleeding...nothing like this!)

@MaryM: Hmmmm. That makes sense, but I have to be honest - it would worry me. I am all for the 45-day rule.

I've never noticed that alcohol has an effect on my temperatures. Is there anything else that might have affected yesterday or today's temperatures?

Yesterday's temp was taken at the regular time, but I DH's snoring woke me up 2 hours before I temped so when I saw it was higher than expected, I marked it as "sleep deprived" (hence the open circle)

Personally, if I have just a glass of wine or a cocktail it doesn't affect my BBT. But if I have more (enough to feel really buzzed/drunk when I go to bed), my temp is higher the next morning.

Did you take your temp yesterday earlier or later than usual? If you took it earlier, that day's temp might have actually been a little higher. So today's jump wouldn't have been as big.

And I was ok with the Dr's suggestion about waiting until a follow up in June (I also have 5 cm cysts that come and go that he's been monitoring)...but since the appointment, I've decided that 45 days of bleeding is my max. I might be calling him back earlier.

I'm not bleeding a lot anymore...but it's like any CF that comes out of me is bright red (and this week, there's been an abundance of that). I've taken occasional OPKs through the week just in case something odd was going on, but they've all been really negative too.

@pui: That's what I figured. But really...I slept much better last night than I have the last few days. Either I slept deep enough that I wasn't disturbed when DH came to bed...or he decided to keep his Snory McSnorerson self out of bed since I left him a very passive aggressive note yesterday morning asking him to schedule a sleep study already. lol

The past two months I've Oed on CD 16, so that was totally normal. And my cycles have been 28 days lately.

@septca: I'm three cycles past MC so my doctor figured it could be my body still trying to sort itself out hormone wise. He wanted to wait another 6 weeks to see what happened and then we'd start blood tests and hormone therapy if needed.

I think it really varies person to person, but I never noticed a difference when I drank (even when I drank a lot). The temp spike this morning is pretty drastic, so I would say it means something (either BFP coming or, less excitingly, just a random hormone spike).

I am more concerned about your spotting/light bleeding pretty much all month. What did your doctor say?

In reality, alcohol actually lowers your body's temperature. It's a myth that alcohol makes you warmer. I know it's written all over the place that alcohol can make your temp spike while tracking your BBT, but that doesn't make sense to me considering that is simply not how alcohol effects the body. More likely people see higher temps because someone drunk sleeps differently than someone sober (goes to bed later, doesn't sleep as soundly or sleeps more soundly, ect).

Since you only had one cocktail hours before taking this temp it seems doubtful to me that it would affect your chart like this.

I think it looks like a good sign! Only the next few days will tell. :)

You say you've been charting for a while... do you normally O around CD16? How long is your average cycle?

Although I've charted for years, this is the first time I'm really paying close attention to things since we're finally TTC.

So, I have a question. For those who chart BBT...how much does alcohol really affect your temperature?

I'm nearing the end of the TWW (12dpo) and honestly, I fully expected a major temp drop this morning.

However, it went up more than .3.

I had a single cocktail last night with dinner (so not super late, and I still went to bed on time). I didn't think ONE mixed drink would raise my temp that much...but...what do you find alcohol does to you?

I took a FRER this morning just to be safe, but it's stark white BFN.

With all my spotting/mucous plus this temp increase, FF made my crosshairs dotted this morning (they used to be solid). What the hell, body??

(this cycle has been odd in regards to all the spotting...which I have talked to my doctor about. But he was hopeful because they seemed regular temp/time wise. Now I'm wondering if that's going out the window?)
