@London Mama: I have always wondered about this too. I just don't think I would sleep at all because I would be so paranoid, and DH is a really heavy sleeper who is always pushing into my side. The responses seem to make sense though.

Thanks for all the responses! I read comments on the boards like "I love feeling DS warm little body curled up next to me" and I never got how it works, when we try we usually end up with 'snow angels' complete with sound effects!

Her bed is the pack n play next to the bed, but most nights I end up pulling her into bed with me. She is still swaddled, so she doesn't move around much thankfully. She lays on her back at boob level, and turns her head towards me to nurse. I put my arm up above her head. She sleeps on the outside of the bed because she still isn't moving and because she can't lay between us. DH can roll over and be on top of me and won't even wake up, so there is no way that I will put her near him when sleeping. At this point, I sleep in the middle of the bed on my side with VERY little room and DH and LO take up most of the bed.

@bree72: Ha! Booby Trap was what we did in the beginning.

We have an Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper that attaches to the bed. It's on my side and LO sleeps there for most of the night. She is not consistent, so some nights she will sleep through the night and other nights she ends up in bed with us when she's ready to nurse.

When I bring her into the bed she sleeps at breast level on her back next to me. I sleep on my side and keep one arm stretched out above her and curved around her to protect her from DH if she's in between us. I push the cover down and usually sleep with a cardigan or some other type of long sleeved shirt.

LO used to sleep without thrashing but now she kicks and moves her head back and forth so it can be a little annoying--I just put her back in the co-sleeper if she's keeping me up.

@bree72: LOL, "jazz hands" is how LO wakes us up in the morning for her bottle. It does take a while to get used to waking up by getting smacked in the face, repeatedly!

Also plan on using a co-sleeper. Arm's Reach wood version.

We use this co-sleeper and love it:

http://www.amazon.com/The-First-Years-Secure-Sleeper/dp/B00012CHFI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1348665851&sr=8-3&keywords=co-sleeper

It’s very sturdy and I’m not nervous at all to sleep with LO in the bed as long as she is in it. We have her positioned between us, at a little higher than my head height so that if I pull my comforter up over my shoulders in the night, it won't accidentally ever cover her too much.

note: it’s a little on the short side, but if you cut off the bottom bumper/wedge, it works just fine for longer babies. I’m sure its not advised to do this lol, but it is a “real world” solution. LO is 4 months and still can use it since we removed the bottom bumper/wedge; but she also doesn't ever try to scrunch down in her sleep, so there is that. She does wave her arms around a lot though, and grunts and snores and talks all.night.long like your LO!

Could you try one of the co-sleeper things that essentially attached to your bed like a sidecar? That way you're kind of next to each other but have your own separate and defined space.

I would lay on my side with her next to me. The arm that I was laying on would either be under her head or above her head. I would let her nurse and then try to fall asleep. If she would unlatch, I would let her roll onto her back and keep my arm above her head to make sure the pillow didn't come down. I would either put her on top of the blankets (so I was sure they wouldn't come up over her) or I would push the blankets way down low.

We're not currently co-sleeping but there are times when I (or more often DH) bring DS into our bed. My problem is that I get almost no sleep when DS sleeps with us. I feel scared to move an inch in case I accidentally hurt him, and then there's the endless kicking, arm waving and grunting.

For those of you who co-sleep where/ how is your LO positioned? Between you, at head height, or further down? Do you leave LO by your breast for easy nursing access in the night? Do you have some kind of positioner or just leave them to move around?

Would love to hear how you co-sleep successfully.
