@winniebee: thanks! I must admit that part of what has made me stick with breastfeeding is knowing how expensive nutramigen is!!!

I just wanted to weigh in and let you guys know we've seen a GI specialist since around 4 months for suspected diary/soy intolerance. My GI specialist said many babies outgrow by 6 months, even more around 10/11 months, most by 12 months and almost all by 15 months.

My LO is 9 months and when he's 10 months we are going to do a trial of yogurt/cheese. He also has had some bread with potential dairy in it no problem. (He's been on Nutramigen since 4.5 months). Good luck!

@MamaMoose: Aw yes! Plenty of time! Dairy is sometimes around one year so really that is just around the corner :) And awesome job on taking the extra step to eliminate for your LO. Many people do not understand why we would do that for our babies! I hope she continues to improve!

@MamaMoose: That is great news! The blood was always so concerning to me so I'm glad that cleared up. Hopefully the mucus does too. How old is she? Most likely she will outgrow them all or be left with something mild. We haven't retested any of my LO's triggers yet with an oral food challenge (LO has FPIES), but we will most likely start at 2.5-3 (he's 22 months). So far we have discovered an IgE allergy to yeast which worries me with school and yeast being in so much!

@anbanan15: she's getting better thanks for asking! I now no longer eat dairy, soy, wheat, nuts, eggs or fish. Her rash went away and her fussiness is much improved. She still has mucus in her poop but we haven't seen blood in over a week! I'm just praying that she will grow out of these issues and it won't be a life long problem for her.

@MamaMoose: How is your LO now? Did you eliminate more after soy? It took 6 full weeks for dairy to pass LO and mine system (when we stopped seeing blood). We eliminated dairy, soy, peanut, egg first round and a week later wheat/gluten, tree nut, fish and shellfish per GI recommendations. He did improve after all the proteins passed through, but once he started solids and reacted to rice things flared and we realized he was still reacting to a lot in my diet. He was put on gut rest from 6-9 months and I ended up having to go to a TED (down to 3 foods) and slowly add things back in....it was hard but best decision we made and saw most improvement at that point. I did TED and was vegan for 13 months and some form of an elimination for 19 of the 21 we nursed. It is tough but so worth it not to see your LO in pain!

@MamaMoose: it can take up to a month to see a change bc dairy lives in your system for up two weeks and also in theirs for up to two weeks.

@brownie: wow. I don't know that I could do TED! But I'll keep it in mind if we don't see some change. I've also read that the reaction can be cumulative so sometimes they do get worse before they get better because they are continuing to react to what built up in your system and their system before you changed your diet.

@regberadaisy: Her stool tested negative for blood at the doctor so it seems like it was just tiny little specs. And I haven't seen any since Friday! Phew! But it's still mucusy so I'm hoping it will go back to nice and seedy soon!!

@MamaMoose: awww poor baby! Yea M never had the blood in stool. So don't know if I just caught it early enough or if she's just slightly intolerant. But I cut major dairy and soy.
Man do I miss my cheese!!!

But yes it is absolutely worth it to see them not in pain.

@MamaMoose: I did the TED for 2 weeks (I ate 6 things). I saw improvement as early as 1 week but I didn't see full complete changes until about a month afterwards (eliminating dairy and soy). It is rough to do but it is so worth it.

Added: It seems like he got worse before he got better.

@regberadaisy: for the first couple weeks im going hard core. Basically just eating fresh fruits, veggies, and meat. Then if this makes her better I'll know for sure that she has an intolerance. Then I'll probably try slowly adding things back in and see how she does so I can figure out how intense I have to be. It's hard because I know she's in pain but she's really not fussy so she doesn't make it super obvious that there's a problem. We finally knew we for sure had to do something when there was blood in her stool

I def started seeing a improvement within a week or two. She stopped arching her back as much and crying during feedings. Her fussiness also decreased greatly.

Good luck! Hope this solved it for your LO.
How far are you going? I was able to see results just cutting off major dairy items and not have to go to the extent of lookig for casein etc.

How long after you started your elimination diet did you notice a change in your LO? I have been off dairy for a week but the doc just had me cut soy starting on Friday. He wants me to do a full two weeks with none of either and then we'll reasses where baby girl is at. From what I've read it can take even longer than that to see a change. Poor baby has so many issues between her gassiness and her reflux. It breaks my heart to see her coughing and grunting and squirming. How long after elimination did your LO get better?
