I'm more scared this second time around.

I had to be induced the first time and the pitocin contractions were painful and scary. I have no idea what regular contractions are like.

There's a combination of a fear of the unknown (I'm hoping for a VBAC this time), and of the pain.

Not nervous at all. Both pregnancies were very difficult, but both deliveries were easy (as soon as I got the epidurals, that is). And from speaking with my doctors as well as other second-time moms, they all told me that second, and subsequent births, tend to be easier on the mom...and this turned out true for me. Aerin's labor was half the time of Claire's, and she was literally out in three pushes!

I'm also sure my attitude has had *some* influence on this. Because both pregnancies were so hard, because I wasn't scared about the deliveries both times, because I didn't have any wants/expectations aside from healthy babies (no birth plan), and because I just had faith that my body would do what it needs to do, and that my doctors and nurses would do what is the best for me and the babies, I went into both labors fairly relaxed and calm and without any fears.

@runsyellowlites- Oh how exciting! I hope all goes well for you :)

@blushink- Well good luck and I wish you a safe delivery and a smaller baby :) My daughter was just shy of 9lbs so I am kinda hoping for a slightly smaller baby as well.

I had a 9 lbs baby the first time around with complications. I wasn't nervous the first time around and if baby 2 is anything smaller than 9lbs then i think it should go much smoother.

I just dont want to get a c-section the second time around seeing the complications I had with the first yet still gave birth vaginally.

I'm a bit more nervous AND relieved (if that's even possible) lol

Nervous b/c I didn't get a vaginal birth last time and relieved because I know this time I have a real chance at getting one! =)

@mrs.bee- Yea, that would be nerve racking!

@heatherloveskenny- See we are opposite lol. I tried so hard to be nervous or scared about giving birth but I just couldn't lol. I just REALLY don't want to be in labor for almost 50 hours again :( Though I would still rather go through that again than get an epidural hahaha

I was more nervous the second time around because I wanted to go for a natural, unmedicated birth (my first was a vaginal birth with epidural). So I was setting myself up for possible disappointment if it didn't end up as planned. But even though I had a higher standard for myself the 2nd time, I still kept my options open and told myself that there was nothing wrong with getting an epidural... or even a C-section if that were needed too. I talked to moms with 2+ kids also and some of them said the 2nd time had more complications, while some said it was easier... So it was all over the board (just like any given labor & delivery). This reminded me to just go with the flow when the time came. I also read up again on birthing... It helped alot being informed.

take what you experienced the first time around into something that empowers you rather than frightens you. The second time around I handled contractions better because I knew they had an absolute endpoint. I also took prenatal yoga and worked on deep breathing. I also hired a doula for labor support and watched birth shows on TLC. I do think all these things helped with the nerves. And yes, I was able to get the birth I wanted!

For some reason I'm not scared at all for labor, is that weird? I'm more excited...I know the possibility that it might be a long labor but I'm just going to take it easy since the whole process is so exciting and I know I'll meet my new baby by the end of this. I was much more scared last pregnancy that I wouldn't be able to even get through contractions and pushing.
You got through it once, you'll be able to do it again!! :)

the first time around i was pretty calm. I was definitely way more nervous the second time around. but that could have been because i was going to have an unplanned vbac, and if i failed, i would have had to blog about it on hellobee....

I was just wondering, are you more or less scared about childbirth now that you have already gone through it? I personally wasn't able to be scared the first go around but now I am nervous. My theory is because now I know how much it hurts and there is a possibility of a long long labor. Also, I have a lot more time to think about it than last time...
