I feel like updating this. I am now almost 14 weeks and they definitely have been very sore for a while. I don't remember when it started. It bothers me at the beginning of nursing, to the point where I hold my breath for a second or two while he latches on and then it's fine.

I am trying to gently wean and it's going fairly well! I put a lot of time into gradually moving the morning session later and later, so I didn't have to do much work and could get as much sleep as possible! We are at 630-730ish and so I felt comfortable ending bedtime. Last night he didn't even ask! Once we are able to skip bedtime for a full week, I'll start trying to phase out the morning. And as for nap... I made a whole thread about it which had great advice!

Mine got sensitive pretty quickly. I coped by reducing the number of sessions. They have gotten worse as time as gone on. I think the biggest difference was when I switched to colostrom (20 something weeks). Now I'm 30 weeks, and it's almost unbearable; we are only doing once or twice a day. Next week when my husband has a slower work week, he's going to take over bedtime so we can stop nursing at bedtime. I reached my goal since my daughter is two, so I really hoped the pregnancy would do the weaning for me, but it didn't.

I breastfed my oldest until 18 months. We had somehow managed to get through me going on a 2 week work trip across the country when he was 14 months, and didn't half any intention of stopping soon. But then I got pregnant, and it was pretty uncomfortable starting around 6-8 weeks. Still, we kept up until around 14 weeks, when he developed impetigo on his face, and I didn't want to chance catching on my nipples when I was pregnant. He didn't seem to mind at all, and so we weaned. I was a little sad but it was the right call for us.

My oldest stopped nursing a week before I got pregnant with my second and my boobs were insanely do not hug me sore.

I got pregnant with my third when my second was three months old and still EBF. I had a little bit of nipple soreness but attributed it to her teething. I had a big supply drop and had to start her on solids earlier than I wanted because she stopped gaining weight. She refused formula but was happy eating. She nursed until she was ten months at which point I'm certain there wasn't anything left.

I had a crazy skin crawling feeling with nursing in my early pregnancy that made me want to cry with letdown. It got better later. We weans start of 2nd trimester, we were down to wake up and bedtime and LO1 was 15 months. Weaning happened really easily after we all had a tummy bug and my supply vanished.

My daughter was 15 months and still nursing when I got pregnant with my son. My breasts got very sore when I was pregnant with her but didn't get sore at all when I was pregnant with my son. I stopped nursing at end of first trimester when milk was drying up and dry nursing was painful.

@mrsbubbletea: I was still nursing twice a day when I got pregnant with LO2. LO1 dropped his beloved before bed nursing session very early in pregnancy, it was around 5 weeks. The milk probably tasted different. He dropped the morning one two weeks later. My nipples were more sensitive pretty much from the get go but it was tolerable. It was very tiring though and I was glad he weaned himself in retrospect because I felt a lot better once he did.

@mrsbubbletea: that definitely was my goal! Because she was getting so much less milk she was genuinely hungry in the morning, my husband thankfully started taking her downstairs to get a pre breakfast snack since he was up for work anyway and that really helped bridge the gap whole she figured out how to adjust by eating more before dinner. Bedtime snack is definitely a thing at our house now! I also admit once I was finally ready to drop the morning session I bribed her with a piece of chocolate if she'd skip milk, not ideal parenting but it worked, now that she's out of the habit it's not an issue.

Mine got a little sore but not enough discomfort to stop breastfeeding. I nursed till I was about 6 months pregnant then DS self weaned when he was 14mo. Possibly due to low supply.

@Cole: that was something I didn't mention... getting up early! Nursing has been my snooze button for so long!!! I am trying to just be really consistent with nap time, bedtime, and never before 5am so that when I am "ready" to go through with weaning, it will be a tad simpler to slowly cut them out one by one. I haven't gone to my appt yet, I have a feeling at my doctor they tell everyone to wean my 20 weeks. I at least want to keep the nap and snooze button early am nursing till I get past the first trimester fatigue!!! That's my tentative plan for now. :)

@mrsbubbletea: I swear your details are crazy similar to mine but thankfully I haven't actually had much soreness. With my loss I noticed my supply decreased very quickly at the start of the pregnancy and then it came back shortly before I miscarried, my other symptoms disappeared too.

This time same thing, big drop in supply in the beginning, then she got really sick and nursed practically around the clock for like a week so it increased a little. I did have a short period of soreness around 8 weeks maybe? I tried a bit harder then to decrease nursing sessions and to establish more limits but thankfully the soreness was short lived. I'm 19.5 weeks now, my daughter is 29 months and we are just this week officially down to nap and bedtime. Morning was really hard to ditch for her (I hated it but it also let me stay in bed for an extra little while so it was hard for me to drop too!) I got a cold two weeks ago and took Sudafed 3-4 times which helped drop my supply further. Somehow this week has been better with nap too- she nurses to sleep and about half the time when she wakes up but for awhile (ok, fine, for most of her life) she preferred to nurse through her entire nap or at least the second half so it's a big improvement.

I was really worried about bh contractions and nursing but again so far despite plenty of BH none have seemed remotely linked to nursing.

Probably two weeks ago I had vasospasms come back but they don't seem to be linked directly to nursing so I don't know if weaning the rest of the way will fix it.

My goal at this point is to be down to bedtime only by June 1. I'm due mid August. I can't decide if I'll wean entirely before baby arrives or if I'll keep bedtime. Part of me is tempted to let her nurse so if I'm engorged I don't have to pump! I'm definitely lucky to have a supportive husband and birth team so I don't feel pressured to decide now or wean imminently.

I'm 16 weeks along, and my daughter is 18 months. My breasts were a little bit sensitive when she nursed from the start, but not bad. At that point, she was down to nursing at bedtime and during the night (we mostly cosleep). Around 12 or 13 weeks, nursing got excruciatingly painful. I weaned her off of nighttime nursing and stuck with nursing at bedtime. In the last week or two, it's gotten much less painful. My supply is basically nonexistent at this point. I still haven't decided when I'm going to wean her completely.

@rattles: Thank you! If everything goes according to plan, we will have almost 3 year age gap, he's already over 2... Some days I am so ready to be DONE and other days I feel sad and wish he could just self wean (but like...soon).

@Mrs. Microscope: Hmm I hope that happens to me and he doesnt want to dry nurse, he just gets over it! haha. We are nursing like 3ish times on a good day, much more if I am lazy and we are home too much. I literally have NO idea how to get him to nap without nursing (even though he doesnt nurse to sleep for bedtime).

@mrsbubbletea: I weaned DD1 at 18 months and DD2 at her second birthday. The gaps between my kids are going to be 23.5 months and 2.5 years, so the I was 4 months pregnant with DD2 when I weaned DD1 and about 12 weeks pregnant with LO3 when I weaned DD2. I'd have nursed my first for longer if it hadn't hurt so bad. I was just over it this time. Congrats on the pregnancy!

Mine got so sore really early (I think 4 or 5 weeks) while I was BFing. I lost that one (and honestly should have known because they became less sore right around the time I lost it), then my next loss was too early to have any soreness, and then I weaned before TTC again so I'm not sure if I had any tenderness or not for that pregnancy (which was successful). If I did, it was definitely not that noticeable.

When did they start getting more sensitive and sore? If your breasts were really tender with your first in early pregnancy, did it feel different with your next pregnancy when you were nursing? I am just barely 5 weeks but I am pretty sure they were so sore almost immediately with both my miscarriage and my son's pregnancy.
