@JessLC: I think DH said at one point he gets 5 weeks of paternity leave. Then he has 5 weeks of vacation per year. But he can't take it all. He will be up for promotion this year, so his numbers (work/vacation balance) have to be at a certain level. So he is going to work really hard to get them up before baby comes so he can take time off.

@Smurfette: my husband has the same exact schedule and the project he is working on has lasted for 1.5 years and will probably last at least another 9 months, but at this point it is indefinite.

anyway, he is going to take his paternity leave (3 weeks) when baby is born and then maybe have a lighter travel schedule for a few months, then take a month off (he has a lot of stored up vacation). not sure what will happen from there. anyway, hope someone has some advice!

My DH travels every week, leaves Mon morning and gets home Thurs nights. I am only 12 weeks right now so no advice but I am going to follow this board. He can work from home, so I am hoping (fingers crossed) that he can work from home the first month but he starts traveling again.

My DH will have to leave for 3 days when she is 1 1/2 month old. I wasn't thrilled but I have both my mom and MIL close if I need a break!

My husband has to leave for some military training when our baby will be about 2 months old. All my friends who have kids said 2 months is better than 1 month (our other option, based on the course he's taking) and that it'd be good if i considered having my mom in town for some help. I'll probably order a lot of takeout those weeks :)

Just sympathizing with ya =]

For those whose SO travels for work, how soon after LO's birth was his first trip? How long was he gone? How often does he travel?

DH's travel schedule has been picking up again over the last few months. Sometimes he is gone just overnight, sometimes he is gone more than a week. There's a good chance he'll be gone for a week before LO is 2 months old.
