Well, if you say the work isn't challenging for you, I think that would be a respectable answer. Nobody really wants to go backwards in their career.

Ugh, im sorry you dont like your new job! :(

When i moved to my current city after getting married, it took me 3 months to finally find a job. I was excited for 1 week and soon realized i was in hell. Brain cells died every day. 4 months later i saw a posting for my current job, even though i was scared that they would question leaving after a short period of time. They totally understood when i told them i wasnt challenged and it wasnt what i was hoping it to be. A few months later while talking to my director, she said i was smart to leave asap!

I would send the resume and email him saying you were applying, and if he could put in a good word for you. Just tell him how unhappy you are with your current job, and i am sure he would understand. Good luck!!

I don't think it'll look too bad if you have a good, reasonable explanation. You'll just have to be prepared to answer the question "Why wasn't it a good fit for you?" The new potential employer might be concerned that you might do the same thing at the new company (jump ship). Was the job you applied for described to you in a totally different way when you were interviewing? I had a job once where they told me I would be doing "x and "x" and I ended up doing something totally different. I left that job within a month and I just told the next employer that the job role description they provided me before I accepted the position was different than what I was actually doing. And that I wanted to be challenged in my job. Employers love that word "challenged". :)

In regards to your ex-coworker. I would totally send him the resume! He might have an "in" with someone there. I dont' think he'll think you're "following" him. And even if he thinks that, who cares? You want a new job! :)

I would definitely submit a resume and let him know too!

Could you get specific about the lack of fit with him? If it was something that wouldn't be an issue at the new job, that would really help allay any concerns I think.

Ok some of you might know I just started a new job this week. I do not like it. Not only do I feel like I took 20 steps back in my career I just also do not see myself being happy there. I have always been lucky enough to look forward going to work and actually enjoy it. Now to me it's just going to work.

An ex co worker of mine just told me of two leads.

My questions are does it look really bad to a potential employer I'm already looking to jump ship? How do I respond to the inevitable question of why I'm leaving? My response would be I just don't feel it's a good fit for me.

Two: one of the firms I'm sending a résumé to; I know one of the project managers that work there. We used to work together one on one years ago and had a great working relationship. I feel like if I contact him he will think I only am because I'm applying where he's working. But I also feel like if I don't at least say hey I'm submitting a résumé it might be rude? Should I give him the courtesy of a email that I'm submitting a résumé?

Thoughts?
