@mrbee: I'm glad to hear that- LO HATES having his hair washed, so we also only full on shampoo wash it a couple times a month as well, and he seems totally fine...

Our baby is mixed. When he was born his hair was straight and fine (looks a lot like your son's photos). At first we bathed him a few times per week. Now, at four months, we bathe him every day. He's got cradle cap and eczema and the daily bathing (even though the literature says LESS bathing) helps his skin a lot more. And we don't notice additional dryness. We don't moisturize with shea butter or anything at this point.

@daniellemybelle: Right now we are using her Aveeno baby shampoo and coconut oil after we wash her hair. Her texture started off as the fine baby hair but now it's soft, poofy, curls. She has a little spot on the back of her head that's a little more kinky we just make sure to condition it well.

I don't straighten my hair and I still haven't found a shampoo I like that doesn't leave it dry, so I don't use it often. I'm assuming I may have the same problem with LO once her texture starts changes.

Charlie developed a shampooing phobia and now we wash his hair about twice a month. It surprised me that his hair doesn't need as much shampooing as I thought!

@Mrs. Polish: Thanks! Yeah, Johnson's is not at the top of my list, even though I love the smell!

@daniellemybelle: we got a sampler pack of California Babies shampoos and lotions. I found that Johnson's was extremely drying on his hair. At this point he still has fine baby hair. It was straight when he was born but it is loosely curled now. As his texture changes I know I may need to change shampoos.

Like this thread, as I'm pregnant with a 1/2 AA baby at the moment! :) What shampoo are you all using? DH's family uses the typical products marketed to AAs but I'm not so into them - I'd prefer to use something more natural.

You seem to have gotten good answers here!
I was going to suggest to go into a prodominately AA salon and ask them, since they deal with it on a daily basis.

@Mrs. Polish: We give her a bath every other night (on doctor's orders because of her dry skin). She gets her hair washed 1-3x a week. Before she started solids it was once a week, but since a lot of food ends up in her hair it's more now. For now we use coconut oil in her hair.

This will routine will probably change as her texture changes.

You don't have to hold back, just make sure you condition with Shea butter or coconut oil so that his hair doesn't dry out.

How often do you give your baby a bath? I've been told not to wash his hair more than once per week, because I will dry it out. Right now his hair is the same texture as mine, so does that make a difference?
