I let DS stand and pee first, then sit him down if he asks. At least it avoids major fountains of pee :silly:

@enjollah: Oh dear, no, he has a mind of his own, he will NOT go unless it is his idea. Even though it is just 1 minute apart (that minute would have been the difference between before boarding and after boarding). Sigh. But thanks for your good luck, I need a ton of that.

@looch: Oh I am talking about pooping!! :) Yes we stand on the toilet to pee too now - and we even broke through to the area where he is now willing to poop in public toilets! Just that sometimes he does pee when he poops.... and it depends on how full his bladder is it can be traumatic.

@irene: aw good luck on the airplane... I've definitely been there. Have him go right before you board... Hopefully it won't be too bad :)

So, one thing you can try is having him stand on the toilet seat and peeing into the toilet that way. I prefer that he doesn't actually sit on public toilets, especially those in airplanes!

@mrbee: @enjollah: I am just nervous about my plane trip in 2 days. I can only bring so many pair of pants..... But I will try convincing him to keep it in the bowl.....

@irene: he'll get it eventually.. Or maybe it takes getting pee on his clothes to learn to point his pee pee down next time. My LO has been picky about changing his clothes lately.

@irene: I would just tell him that if he can keep the pee in the toilet, you'll give him a prize. He can probably figure out the best way to keep it in there!

@enjollah: how to bribe? "I'd give you this toy if you let me push your pee pee down?" sounds so wrong lol

We tell our LO to point/push it down. I think if he doesn't do it, we just do it so the pee doesn't get everywhere. I would bribe in public situations.

@mrbee: yes i tried.... sometimes i succeed but most of the time he refused to have me touching him .... which is good for him to protect his body (!) but sucks to be me.

ETA: he also won't let me hold his hand to point his thingy down.

When your DS goes to a public potty for #2. They'd sit down, right? What do you do if sometimes they pee at the same time, but obviously there is no pee-guard on the toilet, and pee is shooting out?

I know you could tell them to "point it down", but I am asking about what if they are freshly trained, and don't really know what exactly you are asking them to do, or have the physically ability to do it. My DS (2.5 years) knows that he should "point it down" because that's how the teachers tell him, but he would press on his thingy in a way that pee would probably be squating out instead of gently pointing his thing down. So I don't know what I can do.

What do you do?
