We use ours on the highest setting, too. Hers is on a little table across the room from her crib, but I often wish it were a little closer. We use it for naps and all night, too.

We use ours on the highest setting. I thought it was kind of loud at first too but DS sleeps best when the white noise is at it's loudest. Ours is probably a few feet from his crib. I actually think DS slept better the first night with the dohm. We use it for naps and throughout the night. We were previously using a CloudB Giraffe and that cuts off after 44 minutes. We've had our Marpac for a few months now & I've noticed that you adjust to the white noise quickly, even at it's loudest.

I got mine 2 weeks ago. I adjusted it to the lowest setting possible (I moved the top and the bottom things around to muffle the sound). I put it as far away from his bed as possible because i found that the sound is kinda loud too. I was afraid it wouldn't be loud enough but I found it a little too loud. He slept well with it on the first night. Actually, I was lying down with him and I totally fell asleep too. It's a pleasant sounding noise (like a fan) so it totally lulled me to sleep! We turn it off as soon as he falls asleep, unless we have guests over. Then we'll leave it on to drown out the noise. When our baby arrives, we plan on leaving it on all night to muffle the cries.

We just received our Marpac Dohm DS yesterday and I was really excited to put it to use, hoping that it will keep LO asleep for a little longer (especially after all the fireworks waking her up on the 4th).

My questions to you Marpac users are:

1) Where do you put the Marpac in relation to LO/crib?
The instructions are very vague, but said to "position the unit away from you".

2) What setting do you use? Did you adjust the cap and collar to find your perfect tone and volume?
Both settings sound a little loud to us and we were worried it would be too loud for LO.

3) Did it take a little time for your LO to adjust to the new white noise machine?
Our LO was a little fussier than usual last night, so trying to rule out all possible reasons.

TIA!
