We got a hunter fan from Costco. It's actually a little over sized for the room, but still works great. We wired it through the walls and ceiling from the light switch. It operates by remote (which I love). The remote is stuck on the wall next to the light switch. We installed it while I was pregnant before we painted the nursery.

Ours is similar to this one and we paid about that price: http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?partNumber=44687-93591-00263&langId=-1&storeId=10151&productId=3108771&catalogId=10051&cmRelshp=req&rel=nofollow&cId=PDIO1

We put ceiling fans in all the bedrooms, except mine because I wanted a chandelier. I didn't bother to change LO's out when we started decorating his room because I figured it would be nice to have the air circulation in there and on hot days it helps him nap better. And yes, we did wire it through the ceiling.

1.) We have a Hunter fan that is similar to the Beachcomber style but not that large and came without the light from Home Depot. We spent less than $100 for the fan itself.
2.) Wired through the ceiling.
3.) We added an after-market light kit and got a switch (no remote) that had the variable settings and dimmer.
4.) We installed it before I got pregnant but we knew that would be the nursery.
5.) We like it very much. It is a quiet but powerful fan.

Ours (Harbor Breeze) came with the house, wired into the ceiling, it has a light, but no remote (don't feel like I need one).

We use it all the time, since they only cost pennies to run. It really makes a difference in the room since it can be either very warm or very cool due to the location of the room in the house. It gave me some peace of mind when he was smaller about keeping the room cooler to help prevent SIDS.

We installed one this past summer. The light operates by the wall switch but the fan only operates by the pull cords (how it was wired). We didn't want one with a remote for fear of losing the remote. I love it and wished we had done it sooner. We bought this one at Lowes for about $40 and DH installed it.

We also came with a fan. It has a light, but no remote. We rarely use the fan because it's cool in there already.

DH and I have decided YES, we want a ceiling fan in the nursery. Some questions for those who have a fan in your nursery:

What fan did you buy, where did you buy it, and how much did you spend/what was your budget?
Did you wire it through the wall/ceiling or swag?
Did you get a fan with a light? Remote?
Did you install it before LO arrived or wait until the summer?
Are you happy with the fan you chose?
