@paigeface: I personally woke my kids during the day (if they had been sleeping for 2 hours) because I was scared of them mixing up their days and nights. But I know some people warn against doing that, so I don't know the right answer! My thought was the more feeds I could get into them during the day, the more likely they were to sleep longer at night. Who knows if that's true or not!

My LO woke up every 2-3 hours to eat. If yours is sleeping in 4 hour stretches I wouldn't wake. The amount you are feeding him sounds about right as well. At night DS tends to cluster eat and is the most he eats out of all his feedings. It could be that your LO is still hungry.

I wouldn't wake to feed. As far as amount, take his lead. If he seems hungry, add an ounce and see how he does. It he spits it all up, try giving him a pacifier. He just may want to suck. Or he may genuinely hungrier! My oldest son didn't really follow the recommended guidelines. If he still seemed like he wanted more, I gave him more. He usually took it.

I don't have any advice for what to do when he's still acting hungry after he ate, but I think at this point, you don't need to wake him to feed him anymore. Once my babies reached their birth weight around 2 weeks, we were cleared to let them sleep at night without waking them.

And congratulations!

Hi ladies!
We have officially switched over to all formula and lil guy is fed and happy. I have a few questions. He's almost 3 weeks old, should I still be waking him for feedings, he sometimes sleeps up until 4 hours. What about waking him for feedings during day/night? He had his 2 week checkup and he has regained and surpassed his birthweight and is 7lbs 7oz (he was 6lbs 11oz at birth) and he is not jaundice. Second, when he finishes a bottle at about 2.5 - 3oz he acts starving occasionally but I know he isn't. anyone have advice for this? is the amount per feeding correct for his age and size?

Thank you so much! 😊

p.s. was anyone else's boobs itchy during the drying up milk period?
