@littlejoy: yes candles! Also, after a bad experience with our first daycare with the initial transition (we were asked to leave after a week because my daughter cried "too much") I would ask how they handle transition. What support they suggest and what timeline they feel is appropriate for a transition. Also ask for examples how they have dealt with certain situations in the past.

@littlejoy: a question that I learned to ask after our first horrible situation is 'what do you do if a baby is crying constantly or inconsolable?' My baby had a hard transition to daycare made worse by our first provider's apparent impatience for crying babies (crazy, I know).
That being said, once we found the right provider, my toddler and I fell in love with our daycare and cannot imagine life without it! She learns so much there and I love watching her blossom. I feel like her provider is my team-mate in raising her and adds a whole other perspective to my view of LO. Good luck to you and LO!

@regberadaisy: Things to look for ... That's what I really need to do!! Good idea. I already know her scheduling policies & number of kids. I definitely need to ask about who will be around.

I'm assuming this is a in home?
Days off, holidays, if she's sick what happens? What other adults will your child be around? How many kids on a regular basis? If she gets more will she let you know? Is she licensed?

Things to look for: safety precautions, door knob covers, cabinet covers, general cleanliness.

@Apples4Teacher: The discipline piece is key!! Thanks for reminding me to ask that. -- I have never met this person, but we do have mutual friends. My very honest friend said she would trust this girl with her child's life, and that she's very kind. That was great to hear, but you're right, specifics are important.

Oh, and I need to think of the special things. I do know she'll support my daughter's diet, but we are planning to potty train rather early, and I'll need to be sure she's on-board! :)

@youboots: Yes to cloth diapering, but we might just do disposables. And, I definitely plan to ask who will ever be there. :)

Ask if they will suppourt cloth diapering? Also ask who else will be there and when and your child will ever be unsupervised with anyone but her.

Hi! Forgive me, I quickly skimmed the list of questions-they look good. I would ask about their "discipline" techniques (not sure if this was included on the list) and their comfort level with anything you want to specifically do that might be a little "different" like Baby-led weaning for example. (I want to do that but our provider is pretty anti-BLW, grrr.).

I would go down the list and take notes! I did that exactly. I found questions online and thought of some of my own.

Hugs, it gets easier! Being happy with your provider is very important to your piece of mind!

We have an interview with a potential daycare later this week. Her policy guide had a lot of information, but I want to be sure I ask the important questions while we're there.

I found this list online: http://www.babycenter.com/0_home-daycare-provider-interview_1452147.bc -- Again, a lot of these were answered.

Do you feel like it's appropriate to literally go through a list? Or should I just jot down some notes? Did you find a list online? Or just ask questions that were important to your family?

Also, please tell me my babe is going to be happy and safe! My mama heart is having a tough week. :(
