I want to thank everyone for their kindness. It's very much appreciated. I did have another ultrasound and there is no growth or heartbeat. I have a D&C scheduled for Friday that I'm hoping my DH can be here for. Thank you all again.

So sorry you are going through this :( When my original OBGYN diagnosed a missed mc last year, he sent me right away to an ultrasound specialist who was able to show me that there was no blood activity in our little one. Getting a 2'nd opinion really helped me. I think it's totally reasonable to ask for a 2'nd ultrasound.

As for whether or not to get a D&C if needed: For my first MC my doctor recommended it b/c my body hadn't begun the process on it's own. I just followed his recommendation. I was scared, but it wasn't bad at all, I was put under for it.

Please keep us posted. ::hugs::

Sorry you are going through this. When my doctor declared no heartbeat at 8.5 weeks she automatically referred me to a "free standing" ultrasound clinic (not sure what its actually called, but like a place that does nothing but MRIs, x rays, ultrasounds, etc). She called and got me in that day immediately after my appt with her so that they could confirm it.
I think the fact that my doctor proactively sought a second opinion at another facility is proof that its possible one doctor/machine could be wrong while another is right.

Now I'm not trying to get hopes up, because I don't know statistics of this being possible. But to me I'd feel better getting a second opinion before proceeding.
But I guess they do probably do an ultrasound before a D&C to locate everything (I asked to be knocked out before I even got to the OR so I'm not sure what they did after that).

:sad: I'm so sorry you are going through this. Personally, I would ask for another ultrasound and blood work. Early on the heartbeat is sometimes tricky to find...I also had spotting often so although not "normal" it's not unusual in pregnancy. Sending lots of good thoughts your way!

I'm sorry you have to go through this. In addition to another u/s, you could have your dr. check on your betas. If your HCg isn't doubling every other day, you'll know that your baby is gone. I truly hope that there was a huge mixup with the u/s.

We miscarried at 20 weeks after 5 ultrasounds of seeing the baby move and the heartbeat. We found out there was no heartbeat at our 20 week appointment/ultrasound. I didn't ask for another right before because I already saw and knew it was different than the previous ultrasounds. I had to deliver that night because I was so far along. I'm so sorry for all that your are going through.

I went through the same thing last summer (a year ago next week actually). I went in for my first ultrasound and baby measured 9 weeks, right on track, but no heartbeat. I was DEVASTATED. I decided to do a D&C the next day because I knew I couldn't emotionally handle the waiting.

I did, however, ask my doctor to do another ultrasound before we left (the first one was done by an ultrasound tech). She confirmed that there was no heartbeat and no movement. I completely understand your need for a second opinion.

We did testing on the baby to see if they could find out what the cause was. Our baby had a chromosome abnormality, Turner Sydrome, where only one of her X chromosomes were formed. 99% of these babies are miscarried. For me, it helped to know this information. Since we knew she was a girl, we named her and that helped the healing process.

If you have any questions or want to talk, I'm here. I've been there and I know how badly it sucks. Big, big hugs.

I think it would be fine to ask for another ultrasound if you feel like it would be helpful to you. I hope you are right and it was a mistake. You are in my thoughts-- I can only imagine how hard it is to hear such heartbreaking news.

Hi everyone. I haven't posted here in awhile, but I have been lurking since I got a BFP a few weeks ago. I went in for my first appointment today and got an ultrasound. The baby measured right on track for 9 weeks, but the doctor couldn't find a heartbeat. I'm having a really hard time dealing with this, especially because DH is away for work.

What's making it harder is that on the 4th I went to urgent care and had an ultrasound, because I was worried about some brown spotting. It wasn't much at all. I was told spotting is normal and the baby had a very good heartbeat. I haven't had spotting since. Now there's no heartbeat at all? I just can't wrap my head around it.

The doctor told me I need to decide if I want to have a D&C or let it happen naturally. But I can't seem to accept that my baby is really gone. Part of me is still holding out hope that maybe everything is fine. Maybe my tipped uterus is messing things up or something else I don't know about.

Am I being crazy? Should I ask for another ultrasound? Or should I not put myself through more pain and make a decision about the D&C? I'm so heartbroken and I know I'm not thinking right.
