Nikon's entry-level DSLR has live view and continuous shutter release. The new version is the D3300 http://m.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product/dslr-cameras/D3300.html. It just recently came out so you can still get the previous version, D3200, for a bit cheaper http://m.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product/dslr-cameras/D3200.html. It looks like the new version is a bit faster, 5 FPS in continuous mode instead of 4, and I'm sure there are some other upgrades, but I'm not sure how important that is for you.

@Anagram: oh fancy! I'm not sure how well it does for that particular usage, though (i just know that mine takes less than average photos from the Live Mode, so I wouldn't recommend it for that if that's what you wanted it for).

@blackbird: We need live view for it to be compatible with StopMotionPro, the software we have. The software controls the camera (like the students don't touch the actual camera after it's set up in position--the control the settings from their computer...and to do that, the camera has to be in live mode). So that part is a necessity.

I would think that a Rebel T3 would be ok for middle school students! Most of my friends have that as their basic dslr

I have live view on my canon and i hate it, honestly. it doesn't take the sharpest pictures (although i think most people use live mode for video, and I dont' do video)

I'm writing a grant request for a new Stop Motion Animation class I'd like to do at my school---what's a "lower end" (I know they are all pretty expensive) DSLR camera that has Live view and continuous motion shutter speed/burst mode (or do all DSLRs have that?). Since this is for a middle school, there's no need for the best, but it has to have the two above features.

I prefer Canon just because, but Nikon is okay, too.

Any suggestions? I'm on a tight deadline and reading amazon reviews is just leading me down a rabbit hole.
