@Goldengirl: I felt the baby kick at 18 weeks, which is surprising because I had anterior placenta. I would say it felt like jellyfish fluttering in my belly. Or water bubbling if that makes sense. Like a watery pop.

I was almost 16 weeks when I felt the strangest little sensation - the same feeling as my eyelid involuntarily twitching, but in my uterus.

That little whisper of a twitch turned into the kickiest baby that would have me doubled over and wincing all the time in my second and third trimesters! Haha and at 7 months old his powerhouse legs are still giving me bruises!

I'm midway through 14 weeks and I just felt the first movement yesterday! It was around 9 pm after I'd had some cherry pie. I was sitting in bed, leaning forward and resting on my elbows (terrible posture, prob not good for baby!) when I felt what felt exactly like muscle twitches, 3 distinct twitches in a row just above my pubic bone. If you've ever had an eyelid twitch, or a back muscle, or a stomach muscle twitch, you know what it feels like. I sat up and leaned back and quickly grabbed my doppler, and sure enough, the twitches corresponded with the movement of the baby. So cool! Did not think I'd feel anything so soon! I've felt the twitches today too. Normally I wouldn't have noticed, but since I have the doppler, I know for sure what it was. I also know what gas feels like and sounds like in the doppler, and this wasn't gas. It's possible others feel it sooner too but don't recognize it. Either the baby likes cherry pie, or didn't like the position I was in. ;)

it was definitely after my anatomy scan at 20 weeks... I had an anterior placenta. I also think i probably brushed off early movements as digestive stuff. The weirdest for me was phantom movements months after i delivered.

I go for my 8 week dating u/s next week. I'm hoping the placenta is posterier this time and i have a better idea of what i'm looking for movement wise.

Definitely feels like gas. There are some days now (my LO is 10 months old and I'm def not pregnant!) where I have gas and automatically move my hand to my belly because it feels so much like a kick.

I didn't feel anything at all until 18weeks on the dot. I felt kicks. No little flutters or bubbles ever. Just kicks! I am 14weeks with #2 and I think I've felt some flutters but not too often.

I hope its a little sooner like most this time around but I am only 9 weeks now and have a ways to go.

I noticed something fairly early, between 16-17 weeks, but my midwives told me that 18-20 weeks is more usual (possibly later if the placenta is anterior). Even so, what I felt was very sporadic (maybe once every 3-4 days) and to me, it felt like light twitches... like when your eyelid twitches, but low in my abdomen. I'm just past 19 weeks now and I usually feel something every day and it's more like a gentle poking/tapping, but it's still very faint and I only really notice it if I'm sitting quietly and paying attention.

Felt some tiny bubble movement around 13 weeks. Felt my first internal kick or punch at 20 weeks on the nose. And regular movement started around 24 weeks.

I often had really bad bloaty gas before becoming pregnant and that only worsened with early pregnancy. When I got gas and my tummy swelled while pregnant I couldn't feel her move and that was in my third trimester. It used to freak me out a lot.

@delight: That's exciting that you're starting to feel something! :)

@LCTBQE: Thanks for the details. I've read people describing it as flutters or feelings of bubbles popping, but I have so many gastrointestinal issues just on a regular day that I wonder if I'll even know it's happening or if I'll just think it's gas!

@mfa_lady: yes, I was so anxious to feel it, too! my OB told me not to expect anything until week 20, and not to freak out if it took longer than that. I totally felt like the weeks after the first tri and before movement was a weird, eerily quiet time. hang in there :)

there are a ton of great old HB threads on this that I read through a couple months ago looking for answers to your question (I'm 27 weeks now with my first)--I found them by googling, actually, I couldn't find them by rooting around on the website.

anyway, I felt a few flickers that I *think* were movement but couldn't be sure in weeks 15-16--that felt like a shifting that seemed almost like gas, but wasn't. I felt it for certain, and with daily frequency, the day I started week 18, and by then it felt like a tiny goldfish flopping around out of water, except it would only flop one time :) now I feel him moving around constantly, like every hour or two for a few minutes at a time.

ETA if you are at your NT or anatomy scan they can tell you where your placenta is--if it's posterior (mine is) you will probably feel something a little sooner than if it's anterior.

With my DD it was about 19/20 weeks. With the little girl I lost, I was just starting to feel her at about 21 weeks. With this pregnancy I feel that I have felt something since about 13/14 weeks but it is pretty sporadic and more just like a general heaviness where I can tell it is hanging out. At 17 weeks, I am just starting to feel pokes and flutters.

For those who've been pregnant before, or are currently further along in their pregnancy, I'm curious when you first felt the baby "quickening"... i.e. the little flutters and first movements from inside. I've read it can vary widely but wanted to hear firsthand experience

How far along were you? And what did it feel like if you had to describe the sensation? I am so eager to feel something!
