She would scream her head off the whole time she was awake. And for 3-4 weeks she would scream the whole way to my parents 45 min away. Then she started falling asleep on the way to my parents and slooooowly started being ok when she was awake as long as I sang to her, then sloooooowly she started being ok when I wasn't singing. Now, she'll only cry if tired and then she'll fall asleep. We powered through and drove somewhere every day. He is much better now at age 2. DS2 does ok for a little while like 30-45 minutes at 5 mos old without screaming. Neither one sleeps in car seat unless totally exhausted and then only 20-30 min at most. I don't know if it was her age or because we hung one of those toy garland things along the top and that seems to keep her entertained pretty well. I think it's because we so rarely drive anywhere so she's just not used to it, I pretty much always had to lean over and put a boob in her mouth to calm her down. I don't remember having this many problems with LO1 in the car seat, although it was never a therapeutic, magic sleep inducer for her. But LO2 (12 weeks old) hates the car seat with a passion! The only way she is somewhat settled in the car is if I am in the backseat next to her, talking and singing to her the entire time. Obviously that's not always possible... </p> <p>And the cherry on our cake is that once DD2 kicks off in her car seat, DD1 feels compelled to join in. It's awesome. DH and I have decided we should run a service for parents of adolescents - we'll offer 30 minute car rides for their teen in our car with our two screaming babies. It was a last resort and to make it less awful, I tried to be extra vigilant about no TV time at home. I got the travel homedics sound machine and I think it helped her last a little bit longer, but it stopped working. :( </p> <p>She always is smiling when i put her in it, but as soon as I tighten the straps, she gets grunty and cranky.
