LO's dentist said that raisins are a great snack, but to give her something crunchy along with it help scrape it off her teeth.

i'm a dental hygienist and we were always taught to tell parents that raisins aren't a good snack because they have a tendency to hang around on teeth for quite a while. i personally think there are a lot worse snacks out there and will probably feed them to any future children - i will just be vigilant about making them drink water after and ensuring their teeth are brushed.. if possible!

@Mrs. Tiger: That's interesting! Is brushing not good enough? I would think having sticky + sweet things in the evening would be BETTER because then you get your teeth brushed sooner after having them.

My dentist friend just told us no sticky+sweet things after 4pm (so it's not hanging out on their teeth all night). I think they're fine!

I think the concern is that they are "sticky" and contain sugar, but I think raisins are definitely better than other sticky snacks ;) I wouldn't be concerned unless your LO is prone to tooth decay.

Probably? I wouldn't worry about it if you brush her teeth regularly.

Good/bad?

Raisins are my go to snack! LO loves them and I love that I can hand her the little box opened and she can take them out one by one.

The other day my friend told me (whilst LO was eating raisins) that they are bad for snacking because of the sugar left on their teeth, but fine for meal times because teeth are usually brushed soon after. Is this right?
