@lizzywiz: I really like this, going to have to remember it for the future.

DS is only 16 months and had a flip out today that involved throwing his sippy cup and running away from me. All I said to him was that we don't put our cheese on the floor if we don't want it.

@mrsjazz: I can't imagine having a little hulk running through the house.

@mrsjazz: I can't always get her to do it but when she does deep breathing it stops the tantrum in its track.

@bpcmarj: She would be too wild for us holding her tight. I've tried and she's a squirmy worm.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Why would your husband go and do a thing like that??? :silly:

@Mrs Green Grass: This is great! Thanks for sharing.

@lizzywiz: OMG. My husband is going to love this! He loves Common and LO loves Elmo. He might like this more than she does.

I just read a really good article on Pinterest about calming toddlers. One of the suggestions was firm pressure (they say from behind is better). Another was to change the scene I.e. Go outside or make it quieter or darker. Also, inversion (turning head upside down).

Here it is:
http://www.thesensoryspectrum.com/4-surprising-ways-support-childs-self-regulation-avoid-melt/

I don't think you need anger management necessarily, just to find a calming technique that works so that you can address what caused the anger after she's calm. I don't think time-outs work well for anger.

@bpcmarj: Yeah. My daugher says "Grrr, I'm mad!" too. She also has been saying, "I'm mad, meow, meow!" like Katerina. It's cute, but not when she's walking around like the Incredible Hulk, haha. It doesn't happen often but when it does we are both completely taken aback.

We are watching the frustrated DT right now! Sometimes P will say "grrrr I'm mad!". We are all about talking it out. She doesn't get like that often, but when she does I will hold her tightly and ask her what is wrong or why she is feeling a certain way. It usually calms her down enough to not be throwing things and flipping out. Hang in there!

Help!

Are there anger management classes for toddlers? When my LO gets mad or frustrated she becomes one of the Real Housewives and starts flipping over things and throwing things off tables. She just got mad about something and threw her potty, tried to clear all the books off of the coffee table, and sometimes tries to hit us. We watched the Daniel Tiger episodes about feeling mad and feeling frustrated and sometimes that helps, but other times once we start singing those jingles she looks at us like we are crazy and flips chairs.

And 5 minutes later she's a sweetie pie. Dr. Jekyll, Miss Hyde for sure.

Not sure what to do. We do time outs in her room but I'm not sure how effective these are.
