I always try to give away high value coupons that I can't use... Sometimes people look at me suspiciously tho even when I tell them it's a coupon that I won't be using. :-( a few people have thanked me tho!

One lady was kind of rude to me and said she already had one of her own. (It was $10 Old Navy super cash)

I was buying El Pollo Loco once and this lady runs up to me right before I was about to pay and hands me a coupon for $5 off a family meal. I guess she overheard me ordering a family meal. That was so nice of her! I will always remember her. It was such a kind and thoughtful thing for her to do. :)

We have a toll bridge that I have to drive over when visiting my mom and I paid the $5 toll for the car behind me once. The couple was young and looked like they were arguing about something. After that, they passed me and waved. It felt really good.

That is so nice! My aunt had this happen to her a month or so ago and was so excited. I really love the RAK things that show up on Pinterest. I want to do them once LO gets older. (Not that I couldn't/shouldn't do them now.)

@T-Mom: Yeah, I might try asking the electric company. We're a relatively small city and the ladies there are always so nice. I also know that the power co has an account to donate to all year long for this very thing. It might actually be easier to go to the small town next door that my parents live in. They'definetly be able to give me a name, I think.

@bree72: wow this is cool on so many levels.. The fact that your MIL asked you to do this for her gift, and I love the electric bill idea. Maybe you can ask your electric company if there is anyone who is always struggling to pay on time?

This has actually been on my mind lately, because I've been trying to think of a "random act of kindness" to do for the holidays, since that is what my MIL asked for for Christmas. I'm going back and forth between paying someones' electric bill or paying off a layaway. I think the layaway would be nice because it would be anonymous, but every time I go to pay the company electric bill, there are always a couple of people begging for extensions or trying to pay what they can in coins. But I don't want to offend someone by offering to pay. Input, since we're on the topic?

@Alivoo01: @T-Mom: Back when I worked at the mall (2005ish), there was a free Starbucks coupon going around and the story on the back said something like "Mr. X went through the drive thru one morning at Starbucks and bought a drink for the person behind him. The next car was so touched that they did the same, and the chain went on for 8 cars until one gracious person accepted his/her free drink and moved along. To celebrate this spirit of giving, here is a free drink from us to you!" I thought it was a cool story and I love free drinks!

I love random acts of kindness! It's so nice to get free Starbucks. A week or 2 ago, @mrstiz posted about an AMC gift card she couldn't use and mailed it to me, gratis! I was very happy about that. :)

The most recent thing I have done is give my Paris museum pass away to a stranger--I was leaving and the pass had a day left, so they could use it to skip lines and get into the main tourist attractions for free. (Although that didn't cost me extra so maybe it's not that great of a favor!)

Thats really nice!
I went to a restaurant with DH back when we were dating and a lady walked up to use and gave us a coupon that would take off half the cost of our meal. She just smiled and walked away

I was once in line at the grocery store and women with a few kids didnt have enough money to pay for everything, she was trying to decide what not to buy and I just told the cashier I would pay for it, I knew the cashier because I worked there at the time.

Wow that's awesome!! I've just received several acts of kindness because DH and I are going through a rough time financially and we got a little help, it was VERY unexpected and very appreciated. Since DH just started a new job, I am hoping to pay it forward after he gets his first check, there are some great people out there...

ETA:There was an elderly lady at the store once who was only $1 short and she was going through her bags trying to decide what to put back, all she had were necessities so I gave her the $1...I would have done it if it were even $20. If I have the means to do things like this, then I most definitely will. I also had a guy at a restaurant come up to me when I was out to eat with my BFF and baby nephew and he put a $50 on the table and said take care of that baby, and he walked away.

We were walking out of Kohls after doing a huge run of Christmas shopping with a cart full of stuff, DD in my arms and stroller full of more stuff. When we got outside the woman walking out behind us handed us her $10 Kohls cash coupon and wished us a Merry Christmas. I was flabbergasted, thanked her profusely and DH and I used that $10 to buy a toy for a family in need.

This morning I was at the Starbucks drive-thru on my way to work after LO's well visit. I was so surprised when the cashier told me that the lady in front of me had paid my bill. I went ahead and paid for the car behind me to "pay it forward" .. this has never happened to me before! What "random acts of kindness" have you experienced or carried out, and how have you paid it forward?
