I was just thinking about this! I'm still very active on Weddingbee, and the Spinoff heading is used quite a bit over there... I was wondering why it wasn't used in a similar way here. Makes sense!

Funny, when I saw a thread with it this morning, I thought SO meant Significant Other, and I didn't understand how that made sense with the rest of the title :)

@daniellemybelle: It actually happens very very rarely now! It's one of those things that's kind of contagious... now that it's not appearing as often, it doesn't appear in new threads.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Haha what? I usually don't even notice who wrote the thread when I remove it... plus sometimes, we use an automated algorithm to remove the words too.

A ha, I had a spinoff thread once and thought you removed spinoff because I was inspired by one of your threads and you didn't want to be associated with me. Lol

after the inspiration thread moves off the first three pages, people may forget why there was a spinoff to begin with anyway.

I like it when people put "inspired by" or "spinoff question from" in the body of the text, but I agree with not labeling it in the title.

Back in the day, if a thread was inspired by another thread... people might add "SPINOFF", "[SPINOFF]" or just "S/O" to the start of the thread. Then if someone spun a thread off of a spinoff, then the thread might start off with "S/O of S/O".

One day though, over half the threads on the page started with the word "SPINOFF" in one form or another! It made the page really hard to scan... so I finally committed to removing the word "SPINOFF" whenever it occurred at the start of a boards thread.

It's taken a year or so of editing here or there, but there are no longer any threads that start with SPINOFF, [SPINOFF] or S/O! Just thought I'd explain, in case anyone's wondering why sometimes a SPINOFF label has disappeared. We've been removing them to help with the readability of the site!
