My 15mo cries in his sleep (or maybe he is awake?) probably 50% of the time. We don't typically go to him.

Our 4 year old wakes occasionally and it's usually for a reason like a bad dream, and he needs us.

My 15mo old does this probably 5 out of 7 nights. Never a very long cry -- just one or two little ones in her sleep. My almost 4 year old has obvious nightmares maybe once a week where she will be crying and sitting up and talking (usually gibberish) but SO out of it. We usually just go in, lay her back down, give her a quick hug or snuggle, and then go back to bed.

Yep every so often ours will do this in the middle of the night. His eyes are closed and he's asleep but crying. Sometimes he will wake up and ask for cuddles if he sees me, but will easily go back down if I hold him for a little bit. He's never been rocked so I don't mind this at all...he's too active during the day for cuddles! ☺️

E does this, but she also wakes properly and cries too and then we have to go in. Occasionally, I go in too soon and find her crying in her sleep (but going in wakes her fully). Last night, she cried a little longer - so we knew she had fully woken- but we left her and she went back the sleep. This happened twice. Well, this morning she was very sad when she woke up, was crying for mummy as she got out of bed..... and she kept saying "I woke in the night and was crying". She was super wounded that she was left alone to fall back to sleep!!

My LO has done this most nights since she stopped needing my help to go back to sleep. Ever since she was a newborn she'd cry during her random light sleep moments when she realized she didn't have a paci in. That didn't stop when she learned to replace it herself. She still usually wakes once at least at night crying because her paci fell out and she'll find it, put it back in, then collapse back into sleep lol.

My 5 month old started doing this recently-cry for a second or two and then fall back asleep/still be asleep (I'm not sure if she's awake because I can't see her eyes in the middle of the night and if she doesn't keep crying I don't get out of bed). My niece would do it too (we experienced it when she slept over) she had a period of night terrors. I woke her up and told her she was at my house and everything was okay and then she went back to sleep and was fine.

@LBee: lol!

Our DD (23 mos) does this occasionally. It will be one cry that lasts about 10 seconds and then she's back out. Very, very rarely it escalates into a cry that we feel we need to tend to. I find the nights we go get her she usually does it again the next night or two (maybe we're reinforcing the behavior by going in?).

Both of ours do this! Our older LO will randomly have nights where he will do it a couple times and we check on him but he's fine and sleeping. LO2 does it more, usually when he's rolling over or something. It's hard to tell with him if it's that or if he's awake because he only sttn about 40% of the time.

We had a few instances that the pediatrician said were night terrors. They were recognizable because he wouldn't respond to comforting, he was asleep and not aware of us. It was pretty creepy/sad, but they came and went away, and never lasted more than a few minutes, so we weren't worried.

LO does this most nights, and sometimes during naps at daycare. Sometimes she wakes up, sometimes not. (I love my video monitor!) I've chatted with the doctor a few times about it, we're pretty sure it is dreams/nighmares/night terrors.

My LO is a great sleeper and never had MOTN wake ups (she's just naturally a great sleeper) but when she was 2 she have random outbursts of crying in the MOTN. She was always asleep or would fall back asleep immediately. I think it may have been her 2 year molars. Those were the only teeth that gave her trouble but it lasted for awhile (not every night but for several weeks randomly)

Does your LO every wake up in the middle of the night and cry for just a few seconds, and then go back to sleep? Or cry while they are actually still asleep? My 2 year old has been doing this a couple of times per night. If we are still awake we will go in and check on her but her eyes are closed, it's pretty creepy...I have no idea why she does this!
