@Applesandbananas: maybe the other way around. Start with the playlist. When he screams say a calm, no screaming and turn it off until he's been quiet for 30 seconds or so?

@MrsSRS: I wonder if queuing up his playlist (wheels on the bus, etc.) would be too much of a reward?

@MrsSRS: that's a good idea! I've been turning off the music because it's just too much for me, to have music and him screaming lol.

@Applesandbananas: yep. Every single time. It sucks but that's how to ditch most unpleasant behaviors. In the car try rolling down the windows or turning on music so he gets distracted without it being clear that you are rewarding the scream with your attention.

@catomd00: @MrsSRS: @Kemma: his favorite time to do it is in the car. I usually give him a toy or pass a snack back but sometimes I don't have anything to hand back there. I think reminding him that we are inside and screaming is an "outside voice" might help! I like the idea of completely removing him too, that might work when we aren't in the car. We've given him time out a couple times but maybe I just need to kick it up a notch and give him timeout every time. It's getting out of control!

Does LO respond to the notion that screaming is an "outdoor" noise? Maybe try putting him outside every time he screams? Or is there a specific time or circumstance that sets off the screaming?

A quick "nope" and an immediate removal to somewhere boring away from toys like a step. Set LO down and then deliberately turn your back to LO. Stay that way for 30-60 seconds. This is inconvenient to do every.single.time, I know, but it works well and quickly if you're consistent.

Yes mine does on occasion. I think she's just fascinated by what her voice can do. I whisper to her to pleas use an inside voice and also will "scream" in a whisper to show her. It usually works for the time being...

Does your LO randomly scream?

LO does it for attention, I'm convinced. He just randomly screams at the top of his lungs.

Any suggestions for curbing? Scolding him just seems to feed the beast. Ignoring isn't much more effective.

I have a pounding headache and have given him a package of fruit snacks for a few moments of relative quiet.

Any tips, commiseration, or wine would be greatly appreciated ;)
