I have been eating cheese, Greek yogurt, nuts & beans. Occasionally I'll really crave meat & usually end up going out for a burger or something just so I don't have to prepare it. I had to take Zofran well into 2nd tri for constant nausea. You could try moving it to a different time & see if that helps any.

I'm sorry it's so bad! I have a 2yo and I still feel weird about meat sometimes, it's not that strong like when you're pregnant but I think my mind can't get over how gross it seemed while I was pregnant. I used to regularly make DH dinner and not be able to eat it myself. I ate a lot of greek yogurt and almonds.

@blackbird: Yes, vanilla Orgain shakes have been a lifesaver for me! They're not cheap but I buy them by the case when I can. I've been sticking them in the freezer to make them super cold, too.

Could you take a protein shake? I don't think it's uncommon for pregnant women to have a hard time with meat in general.

At least a flavor like vanilla or chocolate would be easily palatable!

My first trimester was the worst with meat and poultry aversions. I ate chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, and baked potatoes like they were going out of style. I'd say mid-second trimester meat looked appetizing again.

@mrs. wagon: That reminds me, when we bought our house we installed this new vent over the cooktop but it doesn't vent to the outside. I didn't realize until I was pregnant that it doesn't really work - instead of filtering the air, it blows the stinky air back into the house! So one night I thought I could get rid of the smell of cooking meat. No. It blew into the family room.

My grandma had HG with all 4 kids and even in her 80s she won't let anyone cook chicken around her...I completely understand now.

@spaniellove: thank you for appreciating my book story. Seriously, when he pulled the book off the bookshelf he kinda held it for a second and said "...seriously?" and I gagged and said "YES GET IT OUT OF HERE." I think he put it in the car and took it to work. I even told him he could hide it and lie, as long as far as I knew, it was out of the house. So ridiculous but morning sickness was no joke in our house...!!

One day I stupidly decided to warm up some leftover fish in the microwave. I had to leave the house for the next 4 hours until WS could come home and air the house out. I hid at starbucks, sobbing into my caramel apple cider.

@mfa_lady: I have been drinking Orgain occasionally to make up for the lack of protein, as it's the only protein drink I can find that I'm definitely not allergic to!

@shopaholic: Yup, lots of carbs now that I think about it.

@mrs. wagon: Can I tell you that I laughed SO HARD at your story about the book?! It woke up DH and I ended up having to tell him the story. It made me feel better for a while.

I had a total meat aversion early on in my pregnancy as well! I ended up doing ok with beans (kidney beans, soybeans/edamame, chickpeas, etc.) so I just ate as much of those as I could. Other sources of protein like avocado, nuts, and even quinoa are good too!

I still make my husband do all the touching of raw chicken/fish, but at least I'm better about eating it now.

I hope you start feeling better and figure out something with the zofran, I've never taken it might be worth a call to see if it would help to move it around.

I don't eat much meat but did not want to be around it or tofu at all during pregnancy. I ate lots of nut butters and nuts and beans and yogurt.

Oh, man. This sounds miserable. In the time being, can you stomach any other high-protein foods like greek yogurt, beans, etc? You could also try adding a natural protein additive like hemp hearts to oatmeal/cereal/salads/smoothies. Hugs, lady!

I had very many aversions to most food, and they didn't go away until the morning after I gave birth. The idea of chicken was so repellent to me that I couldn't even think of a live chicken just walking around without dry heaving! I did change medications throughout pregnancy, which would help for a bit, so maybe you could try that?

I had a decent meat aversion until the beginning of third tri. We ate out a lot in the second trimester because I just didn't want to bother preparing meat. I was actually just thinking today how it's been a while since protein weirded me out and now I scarf down burgers and whatnot without issue. There is hope! <3

Oh friend. I feel you. My husband had a book about grilling with a picture of a steak on the front, and I actually made him remove it from the house because walking by the bookcase would remind me of the steak and make me nauseous. For me the aversions (mostly hot foods and proteins) lifted right around 4 or 4.5 months along. I never did take zofran since I didn't vomit. Good luck!

Ugh, aversions! From the beginning I've had an aversion to all forms of meat and poultry because of the texture and smell. It doesn't help that I've always had sensory issues with food thanks to my ASD. I got by with cheese early in first tri but got really tired of that too and can't stand the smell now. DH made pasta with shrimp tonight and of course every time I think about the shrimp I want to hurl.

Does it ever get better? (I'm 22 weeks) Would it help if I moved up my evening Zofran dose from after dinner to before? It seems to take a few hours to kick in and helps with maybe 75% of the nausea.
