@Jess1483: I also had several food allergies that pregnancy improved of fixed for me (including corn too). So crazy! I'm hoping the improvement is here to stay for me too. So glad to hear someone else had the same experience.

@bhbee: No. Even at its worst, I only tried to avoid full corn products (popcorn was actually my first trigger, and the only one for a long time; my doctor thought I was insane). But occasionally I'd react to something with just vegetable oil in it. I could eat whole ears of corn sometimes with no trouble and other times just a little bit would set it off. I get a "minor" reaction around my mouth first, so my doctor encouraged me to keep eating the products, but stop if I got the minor reaction. That usually prevented the hives. But I do carry an epi-pen, just in case. I think even the allergist was surprised when I tested positive for it given my weird symptoms.

But when I was first diagnosed, I spent a lot of time reading, and corn is in EVERYTHING. I'm really hoping I'm wrong or that she'll grow out of it, because it would be a pain.

I was so surprised (and pleased) when my pregnancies altered this for me. DD is my last, so I'm hoping the changes last and I don't have to go back to dealing with it regularly.

@Jess1483: that’s interesting! Did you have to avoid all corn products/forms when it affected you more? Also very interesting your pregnancies improved it! So amazing how much it changes your body.

The doctor finally called me back that day (low priority, I totally get it). She said she thought it could be viral or an allergy, and we could come in if we wanted. I opted out of it.

But as a sort of non-update follow-up, I'm beginning to strongly suspect a corn allergy. I'm allergic to corn, although it didn't develop until I was in college. My pregnancies improved it a ton, and generally speaking, I can eat corn now. So for now, we've cut corn completely for her, and she has a well-child on November 9th, so I'll discuss with the doctor then.

@Jess1483: eczema can be triggered by allergies/intolerances too. My boys all got eczema after they ate dairy until they were 18 mo-2 years old

We use Vanicream on it and it works really great!

Glad it’s clearing up and she isn’t uncomfortable. Hope the dr gets back to you for peace of mind!

@bees_knees: That's what I'm starting to suspect. We didn't get a new kind of detergent, but we did get a new box of detergent, and occasionally my mom washes things at her house after she watches her. I'm washing all of her things in baby detergent right now... still no call back from her doctor, which is frustrating since it's a Friday. I also just changed a mucous-y diaper (TMI), so wondering if she just has some low-grade viral thing? But that can be an allergy sign, too. I'm allergic to corn, so keeping an eye on that with her over the next few days... She's still totally fine otherwise, and the "diaper rash" (if that's what it was) has mostly cleared, leaving the rash mostly on her legs, arms, and a bit on her face.

That looks like eczema to me, but it's weird it's spreading the way it is. Did you or any caregiver she snuggles with use a new laundry detergent? That's the only other thing that comes to mind!

My 2.5yo also has splotches like that on his legs, arms, and sometimes face. Honestly we just assumed it’s eczema but it’s been getting worse the last few months... I think when we went in last time tothe hospital the doctor also assumed it was eczema...

I always have weird skin issues on myself, so I'm a very much wait and see type of person, but it's really weird that it's spreading so much. Probably a good call to ask the doctor, with the weekend coming up. I'm curious what they say!

That was my first thought, too, but a new toothpaste is about the only thing I could think of. It’s not significantly worse this morning, but there are splotches up and down both legs, and then a ton in the diaper area. She slept fine, though, and they don’t seem to hurt her. I think I may call the doctor this morning just to be safe since it’s Friday.

Could they be hives from an allergic reaction? Any new foods, new detergents, recent antibiotics, etc? Just throwing it out there!

My 1 year old had a few small bumps on her legs/diaper area yesterday. This morning they had faded, but now they’re back and seem to be spreading. Mostly on her legs. At first, they were defined circles, but now they’re blotchy. No fever, they don’t seem to bother her. She is teething and has had a few extra bowel movements the last couple of days. She’s been eating and drinking well. I’d like to avoid the doctor if I can, so just seeing if anyone has any ideas?
