@loveisstrange: Thank you! Ugh, those rashes sound awful!!!! DS's never bled, and weren't sore-like. It was just constant kindof puffy redness. Every time he got a rash, I just felt awful, like it was my fault for choosing cloth, so I can totally relate to quitting. :(

@ValentineMommy: honestly? This is why we stopped cloth. Constant, bleeding rashes. We couldn't get rid of them and they'd come back no matter what we did. We stripped multiple times, tried all kinds of creams, etc.... Nothing. We just ended up switching totally to disposables. Glad you worked it out.

If anyone else is having this problem, I figured I'd update.

After a week on vacation (in sposies)....not one rash. We came home and 1 day back in cloth...and the rash was back.

At this point, I just did a hot water strip (5 cycles) until there were no bubbles. It's pretty likely there was some detergent buildup.

Back in cloth one day - rash back.

At this point, I wanted to quit, and I love my cloth. I then went to baby store to see if there were any creams we hadn't tried yet. There weren't. Lol I did find something I hadn't seen before, however, I figured I'd give it a shot. Powder - in this case, Anti Monkey Butt baby powder (talc free, with calamine) . I know, I know, everyone says not to use powder. Well, it was powder or quit. And guess what - adding the powder and some homemade liners WORKED!!!!! Rash free ever since.

DS has eczema and I think the moisture (and creams) were just too much for him. I hope the powder doesn't cause any cd issues (at least I'm using a liner, right?!) cause it seems to have done the trick!!! :)

@Mae: We LOVE bordreaux's butt cream! That's what seems to be helping him the most right now!

I feel like LO does better when I give her a few min to air out/dry when I'm changing her dipe. And when she does get some redness I wash the area with soap and water right before bed, let her dry out, and then put her in a disposable with a thick layer of bourdoux all natural butt cream (not sure that is the exact name) and it is gone by morning.

good luck!

@Mrs. Lion: We didn't have a detergent change, though I guess he could have developed one!

@Weagle: We typically use Cj's butter, but it didn't do anything this time.

@illumina: oddly, it doesn't even look much like a rash at all. It's just weirdly really red!

@spaniellove: Interesting! I'll have to try Earth's Best. We've been using babyganics or honest, but I'm willing to try anything!

@Vegmama: I'll have to try your tricks! I think we definitely need to make sure he's really dry before re-diapering him.

I did end up taking him to the ped, because it just wasn't going away. She said it didn't look fungal or viral or anything, but that it looked like a change in urine pH. Weird. I have no idea why. We've been letting him outside without a diaper to play in his water table, and I think the diaper free time is really helping. Hopefully it's gone soon so we can move back to CD's - disposables are so expensive!!! Thanks everyone - it's so frustrating when the rashes won't go away and LO is uncomfortable!

We were having the same issue. At times, the rash would go from 0-60 over night ... Like, looks like cigarettes had been put out on her butt.

We started using a little dry wipe after a wet wipe. We'd dab the diaper area to be sure it was completely dry before putting on the next diaper.

When she does get red, we use Aveeno diaper rash cream with zinc.

With these two things, we haven't had a major rash for months (after trying to figure it out for a month (including steroid cream).

I'm sure you've been dealing with this much longer than we did, but we went through a horrible back and forth with cloth and disposables. The ped prescribed Nystatin and Silvadene, neither of which we used. I had him in CD's with fleece liners and used Aquaphor at every change after drying the skin completely (using cloth wipes and water spray), and eventually moved on to Earth's Best disposables, which are the only disposables that he can use without the rash that quickly gets so bad that his skin breaks within hours.

Does it look like a fungal rash? LO had a mild fungal rash that lasted over a month and because it wasn't severe, the Dr said it wasn't fungal and prescribed steroids too. We just kept taking her back until we got the right cream and it disappeared overnight!

Do you use any kind of barrier cream on him? We had a period where LO got tons of rashes and I used fleece liners to wick away moisture + Grandma Els at every change. LO's bottom is always kind of red, even now that she's potty trained, but the rashes were rare.

Anyone else have trouble with persistent rashes? DS doesn't get them often, but when he does, they NEVER go away. I'm talking a month in disposable and waiting until it's clear for at least a week before going back to cloth. Back to cloth and redness reappears a day or two later. It's not yeast. The doctor has looked at it both times it's happened to him and both times they prescribed steroid creams. DS has eczema as well.

I'm becoming really discouraged. I've stripped my diapers, they have no stink issues. I've tried using fitteds so he'd "breathe" more. Tried using all natural fibers. He sleeps in disposables overnight because the moisture was just too much overnight for him. What gives??? What else can I do? He's changed every 1.5-2 hours.

I'm getting to the point where I just want to quit over this, but I actually really LOVE cloth and would be heartbroken. Any advice?
