I've worn one for 10 years. I don't think it's ever said "mom" until maybe now that I am a mom. I combat that by removing it at some point when I'm out with friends to show I'm not (just) hiding. 5 hours in sun with it, 5 minutes without. DH has worn one for the same amount of time so there's solidarity in that.

I get hot sometimes but then I just jump in the water, splash myself, or wet it. Then I'm cooler than anyone else.

@Mrs. Bee: I think it was your comment on another thread that got me nervous about it. I get hot easily especially when it's humid.

i have a long sleeved one but it was way too hot when it was humid. great when actually in the water, but too hot for lounging. so i just got a regular swimming suit this year.

maybe i'll wear it over my swimming suit only when swimming. when jumping around in the pool with the kids, you need to keep things contained!

I am allergic to the sun and spend my beach time in a rashguard and scuba style pants. It is warmer than not but it's the beach and I'm not doing much heavy lifting. So it ultimately isn't too bad.

I have the lands end one and haven't had an issue since it's light and not meant to be used for surfing.

Personally, I know I'd be super hot, even in short sleeves. I like to get a little sun so it's not for me. I think it looks cute though.

I have to wear one, I burn in minutes even with SPF 50. I'm so freakishly pale.
I don't think they are very hot.

I got a short sleeved and long sleeved one from old navy for our June beach trip for exactly the reasons you mentioned. I can let you know how it goes...

I have two, both long sleeved, one is deep plum, the other navy and white stripe.

The striped one is much more comfortable than the plum, it's lighter material.

If I were buying again, i would get as light a color as possible, and I still would run hot, though.

I have a mostly black long sleeve rash guard that I wore at the last summer to the beach in Thailand (so very hot climate). I am totally paranoid about sun exposure, so this really helped ease my mind. I did not feel overly hot wearing it and I did not think I looked like a mom trying to cover up but look cute.

@Foodnerd81: I don't think it's too hot. The material is very thin. Haha. I suppose it is kind of mom-ish, but still cute/stylish!

@Andrea: Even with the short sleeves, is it hot?

Follow up question- does the look scream- "I'm a mom who wants to cover up but still look cute!"?

You can get a rash guard with short sleeves! But yes, I would rather not get a farmer's tan either. However, I can usually avoid the tan with lots of sunscreen and staying under the umbrella as much as possible.

I like the idea of wearing a rashguard when I'm at the beach with LO-- less worry about the sunscreen, and no worries about boobs falling out, stomach looking squishy when I am bent over awkwardly with the baby. But I'm worried it would be too hot to sit out on the beach in sleeves like that. Seems like short sleeves would be better, but then you get the farmers tan on top over everything else.

We live in New England, so it's not like it's super duper hot, but it still gets hot enough (even if the water never does).

I am planning to have C in rash guards and bathing suit bottoms too-- can't decide if it's a plus or minus that we will match. :)
