@zarzar: I would imagine so... If it's yogurt with active cultures, then hopefully those would overwhelm any harmful bacteria. Still, if you wound up with diarrhea and fever/aches possible symptoms of listeriosis), it would be worth being checked out! :heart:

I just opened up some greek yogurt that has a month to go for expiration, so I figured it would of course be the perfect pregnancy snack. It smelled a bit off but sometimes plain yogurt has that "good bacteria" smell, so I took a tiny taste and blech, it was definitely off. I spit it out and rinsed my mouth. I should be ok right? I'm 20 weeks pregnant, and am always paranoid about listeria!

@BananaPancakes: Some high quality yogurts look and smell fine seemingly forever... :shocked:

@Mrs. Microscope: That's what I thought...and then I started to second-guess. I routinely eat 2week old yogurt. :silly:

@Mrs. Jacks: Hey...cool! Do you think he/she would approve of eating the stuff while pregnant?

@MrsKRB: Thanks!

Yeah, we all eat expired yogurt in this house. If it looks and smells fine, I consider it good to go. Never had a problem.

Not at all. We know a GI doc who does research on probiotics and he purposely ages all his yogurt six months to get a true probiotic effect :)

I am pretty sure that as long as it smells and tastes ok, you are fine. The active cultures in the yogurt keep the bad bacteria out! I ate a 2 week expired yogurt last month and I am fine, and so is baby!

@hilsy85: Totally got lost... And it was one of the large containers, which may have influenced my bad judgement. I will throw the rest out, though, just in case...

ETA: Thanks!

I feel like with dairy products it's pretty obvious if they're bad, so I wouldn't worry too much. I'm shocked it was 6 months expired though! it must have gotten lost in your fridge!

Okay, this was stupid on all counts, but I just ate about 1/2 cup of Fage 0%...that was about 6 months expired. It was sealed and looked, smelled, and tasted fine, but still stupid, especially when I had some nice, normal yogurt in the house. :sad:

How freaked out should I be right now? Realistically, I think the risk of listeriosis from yogurt is very low. Anyone want to chastise or reassure me? :meh:

(FYI: I'm 25weeks pregnant.)
