DD1 was 21 months old when I got pregnant with DD2 ironically, so maybe if I hadn’t gotten pregnant the symptoms would have come back. Pregnancy helped, I believe because of the increased blood flow. However, it was the first time I ever saw my nipples purple. After birth was a hard time; maybe the body is trying to regulate again, so you get some extremes. I had a really hard time for maybe 6 weeks or so with them turning white, stiff, and painful. I dreaded taking showers. I used the recommended supplements, which were somewhat helpful but I quickly switched to the prescription nifedipine because of the severity of my pain. It DID work really well. It eliminated my symptoms body-wide for maybe six months, but I found the side effects for the two week duration of the RX to be really unpleasant. </p> <p>Nursing my second baby, it was less severe. I never had to resort to nifedipine. I was just really vigilant to keep them warm, used lansinoh often, and it was enough that time. The vasospasms ended up almost going away after about six weeks. Now I don’t take any precautions and rarely have one. </p> <p>My advice would be to prepare warmth, like an electric blanket or heating pad wherever she plans to nurse and a portable heater in the bathroom. And have lansinoh on hand since that barrier seems to help insulate from those brief exposures to cold air. The heated breast pads sound intriguing too. Actually I think pregnancy significantly reduced my Raynaud's symptoms so I wonder if that is common? Personally, I think this specialty nursing stuff has a low probability of being used and is better purchased as needed. If you want a thoughtful gift related to her condition maybe a nursing stool to keep her feet elevated? Or some kind of foot/hand warmer (blanket?
